Garth Brooks Signs Deal To ONLY Sell Music At Wal-Mart
:eyes:

<snip>

WASHINGTON -- If you want Garth Brooks music, you'll soon have to go through Wal-Mart to get it.

The Washington Post reported Brooks has agreed to sell his releases exclusively through Wal-Mart, its Web site or the Wal-Mart-owned chain of Sam's Clubs warehouse stores.

Don't be confused, this isn't a deal for new music, it's for his already-released product.

Brooks retired from touring and recording in 2001, and he's promised he won't go back until his youngest daughter graduates from high school in 2015.

But Brooks is one of the most successful recording artists of all time and still sells about 300,000 copies a year of his multi-platinum albums.

In early June, Brooks separated with Capitol Nashville, his recording label of 16 years. So Capitol's parent company EMI can sell any remaining Brooks titles still in the pipeline, but Capitol can't manufacture any more for sale, because Brooks retains the ownership rights to his recording masters.

8. I was just thinking the same thing: One more reason why to NOT bother...
..with shopping at Wal-Mart

Personally, I think it's a dumbass excuse but with Brooks not recording or touring I'm sure that Wal-mart paid him money to sell exclusively through his store.

7. How presumptuous of him
to just "know" that in 2015, he will be welcomed back so readily :)

Now if we can just get the same deal for Toby Keith, Charlie Daniels, and some of the other country music morans, we'll clear much-needed retail shelf space for actual MUSICIANS.

Just one more reason that I won't go in WalMart on a bet...

Who refused to sell records at stores in the 90s (like wherehouse) that were reselling used records. . .anyone remember his complaints about that?

14. Isn't Garth a liberal?
I could be wrong, but I recall him speaking out in the 90s for gay rights and being criticized by some of his hillbilly fans.

I don't know much about him but I could have sworn he was a liberal.

Hmmm.

Not that it matters. I don't buy his music and I don't shop at Walmart.

...was his career being flushed down the toilet. It happened a long time ago, but it required a rather large toilet.
