20. I always liked "The One Thing" |
|
Well you know just what you do to me The way you move soft and slippery Cut the night just like a razor Rarely talk and that's the danger
It's the one thing You are my thing
You know your voice is a love song It's a cat call from the past There's no ice in your lover's walk You don't look twice cause you move so fast
It's the one thing You are my thing
You've got a dozen men behind you You've got dead flowers on the floor You're too pretty in the daylight It keeps them coming back for more
It's the one thing You are my thing
It's the one thing You are my thing
It's the one thing You are my thing

my cousin, who used to love that group. I remember being over his house and he was singing "Burning Down the House," making me and my sister laugh. Unfortunately, he committed suicide in 2001, but I think of him every time I hear that song. :)

31. Costello, the Vapors, 70s, but otherwise we have identical tastes. |
|
And I would include them anyway, as well. Really bizarre how you have put together a list that is almost exactly the list I would make.
I would add the Housemartins, Happy Hour or The Worlds On Fire, and also 500 Miles by those scottish twins. 4th of July, by X, I Held Her In My Arms by the Violent Femmes, Different Drum by the Lemonheads (that was 80s, right?) and lots more I forget now because I am old.

Alex Chilton by the Replacements
If he was from venus, would he feed us with a spoon? If he was from mars, wouldn’t that be cool? Standing right on campus, would he stamp us in a file? Hangin’ down in memphis all the while.
(chorus:)
Children by the million sing for alex chilton when he comes ’round They sing I’m in love. what’s that song? I’m in love with that song.
Cerebral rape and pillage in a village of his choice. Invisible man who can sing in a visible voice. Feeling like a hundred bucks, exchanging good lucks face to face. Checkin’ his stash by the trash at st. mark’s place.
(chorus)
I never travel far, without a little big star
Runnin’ ’round the house, mickey mouse and the tarot cards. Falling asleep with a flop pop video on. If he was from venus, would he meet us on the moon? If he died in memphis, then that’d be cool, babe.
(chorus)

40. Wow, almost everything I thought it was saying is wrong. |
|
It never really bothered me that I couldn't make out the words, its the perfect song, its all emotion and energy and rebellion and grungy guitar and snarly vocals but still somehow vulnerable, defiant in defeat. As I said, rock and roll.

39. "Wild Wild West" by Escape Club |
|
Forty-seven dead beats living in the back street North east west south all in the same house Sitting in a back room waiting for the big boom I'm in a bedroom waiting for my baby
CHORUS: She's so mean but I don't care I love her eyes and her wild wild hair Dance to the beat that we love best Heading for the nineties Living in the wild wild west The wild wild west
Mandy's in the backroom handing out Valium Sheriff's on the airwaves talking to the D.J.'s Forty-seven heartbeats beating like a drum Got to live it up live it up Ronnie's got a new gun
CHORUS
Now put your flags in the air and march them up and down You can live it up live it up all over the town And turn to the left, turn to the right I don't care as long as she comes tonight
CHORUS
Heading for the nineties living in the eighties Screaming in a back room waiting for the big boom Give me give me wild west Give me give me safe sex Give me love give me love Give me time to live it up
CHORUS
