something tasteful but not matronly - and it depends where you're going. Don't wear black to a pool hall, and don't wear jeans to the opera. Also depends where you live - it is summer. If you're comfortable on a casual date doing dinner and a movie, wear something summery and simple (plain no frilly prints, no electric leotards) that will show off your hair, eyes & skin. If a more formal evening, go with darker or richer colors - don't wash yourself out with neutral colors but also be aware that too dark might be too much visual drama for a first date.

The "signal" you want to send is that you take care of yourself but you don't think any one aspect of you is all of you, including your clothes. Don't let your clothes distract from presenting yourself - it's you he's on a date with, not your hair or your boobs. So don't do the flaming bustier with fireworks shooting out of the tits or a hairdo that could survive atmospheric re-entry without losing a ceramic tile.
