Gold Star Thread - Reasons to donate to DU
Edited on Mon Nov-10-03 06:56 PM by mw
I'm not being paid or asked by DU to say this. It's just me.

I've been at DU since Week One, before the posting procedures were even down pat. This was during the time when the Bush coup was just achieving reality, and the dark clouds of Republican cynicism were descending on the US.

Back then, DU was one of--if not THE--only places for American patriots to gather and discuss Bush's "Midnight in America" administration, and the preceding judicial coup.

We NEED this place. And Dave and Dave, who started this place, need the money.

Maybe you can't march on Washington with pitchforks and torches? Maybe you can't write searing essays? Maybe you can't donate time and energy to your local democratic party?

Well, one thing you CAN do is throw a few dollars DU's way.

Ask yourself: How much would it suck if DU wasn't here? And, how much would you be willing to pay if YOUR PAYMENT ALONE kept DU alive?

Or another perspective: How much would you WISHED you paid if DU disappeared, and you wished you could bring it back? Unfortunately, then it would be too late.

I'll bet DU would appreciate even 10 bucks. Or 5. It's not much to ask. Think about it.

:D

1. DU addict that I've become, I
very much want to donate, I don't know what I'd do without DU! But, as a single mother, I really can't afford to give anywhere near what I wish I could give. I could afford maybe 20 bucks, which I'd gladly give, but is that really making a difference? Would that really help? It seems like such a small amount. I feel bad that I can't give more.

2. I won't pretend to speak for DU, but....

I think that even 5 bucks would be appreciated.

I also think that if anyone is strapped for money, then you shouldn't donate. Donate only what you can afford. That's true for any good cause.

:D

5. Yes, that's true,
but I'm on DU at least two hours a day and I believe that if you use a service for a large amount of time you should contribute to it. I get paid on Friday, I hope I'll be able to have something then.

3. I think it would
definitely help. I'm a poor college kid and that's the amount I gave. :)

4. I gave last night
Kicked in $10. It was the least I could do. I've been coming here since the beginning and started posting shortly thereafter. I never have any money, but I made room for a small donation last night.

Can't wait to be "branded." LOL

6. hell i gave 3 bucks..
gave 5 when i got my star, then i had 3 left over when this drive started..

think of it like this- if the choice is between giving 3 dollars or nothing, then why not just give the three bucks?

i think public radio would do well to lower the minimum amount of donations. the station in my area has a 40 dollar minimum, which i can't really justify at my income level.

7. A year ago back in September
I donated and a year later, I donated twice as much as the first time.

If DU weren't here, I don't where I'd be as far as politics is concerned...

10. I just gave again, in honor of Veterans Day
It feels like the right thing to do, to honor our troops, especially the ones in Iraq dying dutifully for a dishonorable cause.

12. They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa
Remember when you ran away and I got on my knees and begged you not to
leave because I'd go berserk?? Well...
You left me anyhow and then the days got worse and worse and now you see
I've gone completely out of my mind.. And..
They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!
They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa
To the funny farm. Where life is beautiful all the time and I'll be
happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and they're
coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!!!!

You thought it was a joke and so you laughed, you laughed when I had said
that loosing you would make me flip my lid.. RIGHT???
I know you laughed, I heard you laugh, you laughed you laughed and
laughed and then you left, but now you know I'm utterly mad... And..

They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa,
They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa.
To the happy home. With trees and flowers and chirping birds and basket
weavers who sit and smile and twiddle their thumbs and toes and they're
coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!!

I cooked your food, I cleaned your house, and this is how you pay me back
for all my kind unselfish loving deeds.. Huh??
Well you just wait, they'll find you yet and when they do they'll put you
in the ASPCA, you mangy mutt!!! And...

They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa.
They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa.
To the funny farm, where life is beautiful all the time and I'll be happy
to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and they're coming
to take me away, ha-haaa!!!
To the happy home, with trees and flowers and chirping birds and basket
weavers who sit and smile and twiddle their thumbs and toes and they're
coming to take me away, ha-haa!!!
To the funny farm, where life is beautiful all the time... (fade out)

Hey, buddy!
Yes officer..
You a head?
No, but I'm catching up, ha ha ha....

is the search function, which is only available to donating members.

What a time saver!

15. I'm a monthly donator- and I just made a donation for two people
I enjoy having on this board. Why? Because I love it here. I'm a dirt poor law student, but I manage to find a few bucks here and there to donate to my favorite causes- and DU just happens to be one of them.
