Six Feet Under Finale - I was so afraid that Nate singing Rare Earth's
"I Just Want To Celebrate" ("Another day of liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiife.....") might be the ending!
I know they did that on purpose to shock us and it sure worked!

SING ALONG NOW:
I just want to celebrate
Another day of livin'
I just want to celebrate
Another day of life

I put my faith in the people
But the people let me down
So I turned the other way
And I carry on anyhow

I had my hand on a dollar bill
And the dollar bill flew away
But the sun is shinin' down on me
And it's here to stay

Don't let it all get you down, no no
Don't let it all turn you around

Well I can't be bothered with sorrow
And I can't be bothered with hate oh no
I'm usin' up my time, with feelin' fine, everyday

1. Nate's singing was a little like the 'commericials' they had in the pilot
In the pilot, instead of fading to white they would do these 'commericials' for funeral home products that were sorta cheesy and over-the-top. Then in the next scene you would see them using that product (One was for a giant size dirt shaker that you use instead of grabbing the dirt with your hand and tossing it on the coffin). They were thinking of using that as their gimick for the show but it was stopped after that first pilot.

So Nate's singing was sorta like those 'commericials' in the pilot because the 'commericials' were usually a song and dance in an all white room.

4. Oh yeah... I forgot about the commercials.
They were fun at first but I'm glad they didn't keep 'em. And even though they didn't keep the commercials they kept some songs and dances huh?

Guess I'll see 'em soon since we're going to start watching all over again on DVDs.

2. yeah, when I saw that, I just wasn't sure if that was the ending or not...
and I'm oh-so glad it wasn't!! Thanks for posting the link to the obituaries-- I hadn't read them yet. I did watch the finale episode a second time, and gleaned a lot more information that go-round, about each of the character's deaths. But this provided even more about where they were in each of their lives... I'm gonna miss those characters and that show sooo much!

3. Me too...
I can't believe they had to end the show. A lot of people brought
up the War comments, Billy's shirt, etc. but did anyone notice when
Claire was leaving she had a tee shirt with a big dove on it.
Perhaps that was mentioned but I hadn't see it but again, another
subtle reference for peace.

6. Wow! I did not notice Claire's t-shirt when she was leaving...
I'm so glad you shared that! I noticed Billy's t-shirt when he answered the door for Claire, Ted, and Ruth, over at Brenda's house; it said 'What Would Jesus Bomb'. I had to stop the tape to read it, 'cuz you just got a glimpse of it for a moment. I did notice that Claire's car, when she was driving off at the end, had a sticker on the back of it, but for the life of me, I couldn't make out what it said.

5. Gleaning........ Were the ghosts really visitors or projections?
I say they were projections of the live person's thoughts or wishes but my sig other disagrees.

7. I don't know...
my first thought was that they were ghosts. However, during the part of the last episode where Nate just kept taunting Brenda about the baby, some of that could have been either projection or ghost. I thought it was weird that the whole episode Nate was really especially cruel to Brenda about Willa, and then presto-chango, she wakes up, goes to Willa's room and there is Nate, and his dad standing there, holding Willa, and saying how beautiful she was, and what a gift she was! How did he turn it around so fast, and why??? that could have been a projection, because I think Brenda wanted Nate to want Willa so desperately. As much as she, Brenda wanted Willa.

10. I have heard that
the show's writers were saying it was projections.
