Guilty pleasures
Okay, 'fess up, what are some of your guilty pleasures? Here's my short list:

ABBA. My wife thinks I'm nuts. I've got the CDs, I've got the DVDs, and I even purchased a VHS copy of "ABBA: The Movie" on Ebay.

Court shows. I watch them all. Judge Mathis, Judge Hatchett, Judge Joe Brown, The People's Court (sometimes) and Judge Judy.

Bill O'Reilly. Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment, but I usually enjoy "The O'Reilly Factor" and watch it most nights. I even own two Bill O'Reilly books.

The British House of Commons' weekly Prime Minister Q&A, C-SPAN. Fabulous. If I were to be granted one wish (aside from ending world hunger, that's a given) it would be that the United States Congress adopt this model. If you've never watched the Q&A, the format is like this:
House of Commons member asks Tony Blair sarcastic question.
Blair stands up, a notebook in hand (what's in the notebook?) and answers the question.
Lots of yelling and shouting ensue.

Can you imagine everyone in the House of Representatives firing questions at Bush every couple of minutes?

Let's hear some more of those guilty pleasures!

2. Beer
I usually only drink once a week, but boy is it a doozy when I do. I really go over-board. And I pay for it the next day. Every time that next day happens I ask myself why I do this to myself. Then next week rolls around and I do it again.

3. I've always wondered whether the word "guilty" should be used...
To describe things you enjoy.

Having said that...I adore Anne Rice's books. Florid, sometimes overwritten...and Ms. Rice has a propensity to overuse the word "preternatural"...but I do love her books.

I also share your love for "Question Time". I also enjoy the opening of Parliement...with the pagentry of the Queen's arrival.

5. I bet you jammed on that Aussie movie,

Muriel's Wedding. Lots of ABBA. Great movie.

I don't know how you stomach O'Reilly. Have you tried listening to Mike Malloy on the internet, 9-midnight (EST), M-F?

ITA about the House of Commons' weekly Q&A. Very lively. Can't imagine Chimpy McFlightsuit being able to talk his way out of anything involving real leadership.

I can't do the court tv shows. Gets me too depressed about how shallow some people are.

My indulgence: a couple (woo-hoo!) glasses of wine one night a week.

6. Here's my list:
Robert Ludlum books - overblown writing, pretty much the same plot every book, but I am a sucker for 'em.
Bartender's Best Ever Kick Ass Mudslide. I buy one of the half-pint bottles and nip on it all weekend (not a huge drinker, as you can tell!)
The occasional one-hit during the day.
Shopping at flea markets and thrift stores for additions to my collections (cobalt glass, vintage linens, globes, alphabet blocks, ashtrays from odd places)
Road cruising...bad waste of gas, I know, I know...but I love driving, especially on roads I've never been down before.
Queer Eye for the Straight Guy; Changing Rooms; Trading Spaces; Makeover/Wedding/Dating/Baby Story...all that crap (and yes, I cry like crazy at all of 'em)
Going to the airport and just watching the planes.

9. Edward D. Wood films

Unfortunately, what Wood had in drive he lacked in talent. As such, he has nothing more than a cult following of nerds like me, who get a good laugh out of the sheer inetptitude of his cinematic forays.

RIP, Eddie!
