OMG-Affairs of the Heart, Mozetich Conc. for Violin and Orch. - BEAUTIFUL!
Parts of it blew me away. Stunning piece, sensual (or is it sensuous? I've seen Animal House many times, I should know the difference, but I can never remember). Soaring, beautiful melodies; very harmonic, with enough unusualness to be interesting; plaintive. Like being on a barren wasteland, like around Kilauea; mourning the loss of the beauty that was, but fniding also beauty in the desolation and in the new life that forces its way into the crevices of the lava, and seeing also a austere and sublime and magnificence in the power of miles of black, barren rock.

I'd never heard this piece before. I have put on my wishlist at Amazon. :-)

Here's the CD that they played on the radio. The first reviewer has it right - a mix of Mahler and Glass. Parts of it reminded me of Glass, but please, don't be afraid - nothing so minimalist. This is highly romantic in nature, and unless were a real Glass fan, one might very well not even notice. Wow, was it beautiful.

1. Mahler and Glass?
Now that does sound interesting! I will have to check this out. We just played Dvorak #6 among other things at our concert Saturday night. Very moving. Thanks for the heads up on this, not something I would have run into most likely.

2. yeah, I'd never heard of the guy before
has a number of CDs. I was listening to the radio, though not very diligently, and this piece came on and just GRABBED my attention after a couple minutes.

Some absolutely brilliant violin playing, too: every note delineated and pure, great tone. Great recording quality.

Can't recommend it enough.

And congrats on the Dvorak #6! I love Dvorak.

3. I've never heard the name either.
Yes when it reaches out, grabs you and makes you gasp you know you have found something special. Did you catch who the violinist was or was it the section of an orchestra? I will check it out sometime tonight. Thanks. Yes, Dvorak is special and this was one I had not played before. Magical second movement.

5. She performed Lalo with an orchestra I was in
When she was 16 or 17. I was floored then by her musical maturity!

I'm not familiar with Mozetich...Thanks for the heads-up! :-)

6. No prob - I'm glad you second on her abilitiy as a violinist
I would dearly love to hear her perform live.

One benefit of listening to the radio - every now and then, one gets to hear someething brand new, and get all excited about music again!
