I hereby declare...
that The DU Lounge needs more Monkees threads!

Sock it to me...

Floatin’ down the river
With a saturated liver
And I wish I could forgive her
But I do believe she meant it
When she told me to forget it
And I bet she will regret it
When they find me in the morning wet and drowned
And the word gets ’round
Goin’ down
Goin’ down

Coming’ up for air
It’s pretty stuffy under there
I’d like to say I didn’t care
But I forgot to leave a note
And it’s so hard to stay afloat
I’m soakin’ wet without a boat
And I knew I should have taken off my shoes
It’s front page news
Goin’ down
Goin’ down

I wish I had another drink
It wouldn’t be so hard to sink
I should have taken time to think
Besides I got the picture straight
She must have had another date
I didn’t need this extra weight
I wish that I could see the way to shore
Don’t want no more
Goin’ down
I’m goin’ down

And now I see the life I led
I slept it all away in bed
I should have learned to swim instead
And now it’s really got me stumped
I can’t believe why I jumped
I’d like to get my tummy pumped
I can’t believe they drink this stuff in town
This dirty brown
Goin’ down
Goin’ down

I wish I looked before I leaped
I didn’t know it was so deep
Been down so far I don’t get wet
Haven’t touched the bottom yet
This river scene is gettin’ old
I’m hungry, sleepy, wet and cold
She told me to forget it nice
I should have taken her advice
I only want to go on home
I’d gladly leave that girl alone
What a way to spend the night
If I don’t drown, I’ll die of fright
My pappy taught me how to float
But I can’t swim a single note
He threw me in to teach me how
I stayed there floatin’ like a mama cow
And now I’ve floated way down stream
I know this has to be a dream
If I could find my way to shore
I’d never, never do this anymore
I’ll give you three, I’ve been down nine
I’m goin’ down just one more time.
Goin’ down.
Goin’ down.

Now the sky is gettin’ light
An everything will be alright
Think I finally got the knack
Just floatin’ here lazy on my back
I never really liked that town
I think I’ll ride the river down
Just movin’ slow and floatin’ free
There’s a river swingin’ under me.
Waving back to the folks on shore
I should have thought of this before
I’m floatin’ on down to new orleans
Goin’ to pick up on some swingin’ scenes
I know I’ll know a better day
I’ll go down groovin’ all the way
Goin’ down
Goin’ down

2. LOL!
Have a look in Mrs. Grumpy's thread, that has the most recent pic of the McLargehugeletts. How ya been?

Just a loud mouth yankee I went down to mexico.
I didn’t have much time to spend, about a week or so.
There I lightly took advantage of a girl who loved me so.
But I found myself a-thinkin’ when the time had come to go...

Chorus:
What am I doin’ hangin’ round?
I should be on that train and gone.
I should be ridin’ on that train to san antone,
What am I doin’ hangin’ round?

She took me to the garden just for a little walk.
I didn’t know much spanish and there was no time for talk.
Then she told me that she loved me not with words but with a kiss.
And like a fool I kept on thinkin’ of a train I could not miss...

Chorus

Well it’s been a year or so, and I want to go back again.
And if I get the money, well I’ll ride the same old train.
But I guess your chances come but once and boy I sure missed mine.
And still I can’t stop thinkin’ when I hear some whistle cryin’....

Chorus (repeat)

10. I'll go check out Mrs.Grumpy's thread now!
I've been doing well, but I have missed you terribly.

Oh and here's a monkey for you:

BTW - can you send me the link to your website, again? I looked all through DU for it and couldn't find it. I wish DU had a search feature that would allow looking for two people instead of just one.

I JUST posted that same lyric set :)

How goes it? Did you ever watch Black Sun?

Though you’ve played at love and lost
And sorrow’s turned your heart to frost
I will melt your heart again.
Remember the feeling as a child
When you woke up and morning smiled
It’s time you felt like you did then.
There’s just no percentage in remembering the past
It’s time you learned to live again at last.

Come with me, leave yesterday behind
And take a giant step outside your mind.

You stare at me in disbelief
You say for you there’s no relieve
But I swear I’ll prove you wrong.
Don’t stay in your lonely room
Just staring back in silent gloom.
That’s not where you belong
Come with me I’ll take you where the tast of life is green
And everyday holds wonders to be seen.

Come with me, leave yesterday behind
And take a giant step outside your mind.

8. I watched it for the first time about a month ago
I was amazed and surprised at how well it was made considering the miniscule budget (in Tiawanese money even) and how visceral it was.

I am good. Been working like a madman.

5. Too damn right it does.
Did you know that one of the Monkees was an actor in Coronation Street for a brief while (C.S. is one of the two leading British soaps getting audiences of up to 18 million).

7. I used to watch CS when I was a college student in the UK
that and Eastenders :)

Lemme guess, Davey Jones?

You tell me that you’ve never been this way before.
You tell me things I know that I’ve heard somewhere.
You’re standing in the places and you’re
Staring down through faces, that bring to mind traces
Of a girl, a girl that I knew somewhere.

I just can’t put my finger on what it is
That says to me watch out! don’t believe her.
I can’t give any reasons girl,
My thoughts are bound down in a whirl.
I just can’t think who in the world was that girl;
I know I met her somewhere.

Someway, somehow this same thing was done.
Someone, somewhere did me this same wrong.

Well, goodbye dear, I just can’t take this chance again.
My fingers are still burning from the last time.
And if your love was not a game, I only have myself to blame.
That’s as may be, I can’t explain.

Just ask the girl that I knew somewhere.

12. late night pre-teen acid trip movie...
I remember watching that late, late, late on cable tv when I was a kid. Maybe one of the reasons I never got into the weed...

My, my the clock in the sky is pounding away
There’s so much to say
A face, a voice, an overdub has no choice
And it cannot rejoice

Wanting to be, to hear and to see
Crying to the sky

But the porpoise is laughing good-bye, good-bye
Good-bye, good-bye, good-bye

Clicks, clacks
Riding the backs of giraffes for laughs is alright for a while
The ego sings of castles and kings and things
That go with a life of style

Wanting to feel, to know what is real
Living is a lie

But the porpoise is waiting good-bye, good-bye
Good-bye, good-bye, good-bye
Good-bye, good-bye, good-bye
Good-bye, good-bye, good-bye

13. I love that one and Your Auntie Grizelda
:)

I was listening to the old Colgems recordings inhereted from my Uncle Dan when I was but a wee lad of 3... that and a Partridge Family 8-track.

She knows her mind all right, your auntie grizelda,
She says she knows my kind, she might, maybe so.
Oh, yeah, she’s raised you right, your auntie grizelda,
You only know the things she wants you to know.

I know she’s having a fit,
She doesn’t like me a bit,
No bird of grace ever lit on auntie grizelda.

You can’t begrudge her style, your auntie grizelda,
She couldn’t budge a smile and do it for free.
So righteous making fudge, your auntie grizelda,
So proper judging others over her tea.

You look just like her you do,
I know by looking at you,
That you’ve been listening to your auntie grizelda.

Oh, no, don’t look at me like auntie grizelda
It takes much more to be someone of your own.
You’ve got to make it free from auntie grizelda
Or just like her you’ll have to make it alone.

I know she’s having a fit,
She doesn’t like me a bit,
No bird of grace ever lit on auntie grizelda.

Auntie grizelda, auntie grizelda
