On the list of crappy days...this one ranks near the top...
Edited on Wed Aug-24-05 01:41 PM by Reverend_Smitty
and it's only 2:30. I'm working at a high school covering pre-season camp with the athletic trainer (it's a clinical rotation for my major) so naturally this is an unpaid position but I manage to work 13 hour days anyway. So anyhow my supervisor asks if I want to run to Rite-Aid and pick up some pictures for her. I say sure, a great excuse to get out of the building for a little while. As I'm pulling out of the school parking lot I hear a weird thud coming from the back of my car, I don't think too much of it and continue on to the drug store which is about a half a mile down the road.

When I get out of the car I notice that my back passenger side tire is completely flat. Shit! I call my supervisor and tell her what happened and then call AAA. At least an hour passes before the guy comes to put on my spare tire (and don't say I should have just done it myself because I didn't have the proper tools in my trunk and I'm in no mood for a lecture from the do it yourselfers). He puts the spare on and I drive to the nearest tire center to get the leak plugged.

I'm waiting about 10 minutes at the Firestone place and the mechanic asks who put the spare on. I say AAA, and he says that the dude who put the nut back on the tire did it crooked and because of that the little thinger that holds the tire on snapped off! Which would be a $50 job to fix. Then he comes back out and says that they plugged the hole (there was a nail in the tire) but the hole they plugged wasn't what made the tire flat. There was a huge gash in it and it was not fixable. Who the hell knows how that got there.

So the new tire was going to cost me $85, well I only had $75 on me and I don't have a credit card. Thankfully the guy had mercy and only charged me $70. I still have to get the nut problem taken care of but I will have to wait until tomorrow at lunch when my dad can give me some more cash. (my bank account is drained). So I must call AAA and give them hell and I'd better be reimbursed for the nut or else...What a shitty day! Worst part about it is I'm only on my lunch break, I have to leave in about 5 minutes to go back to the school and work til 9!

3. sounds like the mechanics at Firestone are idiots.
You would think they would notice the gash in the tire before putting a plug in it.
AAA screwed up my car too a while back and they did give me a full repayment for my troubles.
hope tomorrows better.

5. I work at a tire factory- I get a 35% discount on my tires!
Sometimes they have a special sale for us that gives us 55% off! My bad tire story is on my current vehicle. I bought it new in 03, it has not-so-goodyear's on it. Every freaking tire on the truck was a leaker- I have had to use fix-a -flat on all of them due to unexplained slow leaks.
I have been delaying replacement because I am a cheap bastard and want to get the milage out of the factory tires before I replace them. (even having to use the fix-a-flat if thats what it takes).

6. Thanks everyone for the hugs!
I just got home from working the second session. I'm tired and hungry and I have some Tastycake cupcakes in the fridge for dessert. Nothing else went wrong today except the giant waterbug that was hiding under the bathmat when I got out of the shower a few minutes ago. I can't decide what I need more to take the edge off this day a beer or some chocolate
