Rock-n-Roll has lied to me FOR THE LAST TIME
I did a little research, and it turns out they really DIDN'T build this city on Rock-n-Roll after all. They really built it on a river bluff, overlooking the confluence of the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers.

Now I'm REALLY mad.

2. you obviously have the wrong city
Starship would never lead you astray. Try San Francisco (and if nothing else, you have an excuse for a 'fact finding mission')

4. It is physically impossible to build a city on Rock-n-Roll.
You need to use Jazz. ;)

6. Maybe this will help.......
Jenny said when she was just five years old
You know there's nothing happening at all
Every time she puts on the radio
There was nothing goin' down at all
Then one fine mornin' she puts on a New York station
She couldn't believe what she heard at all
She started dancin' to that fine fine music
You know her life was saved by Rock 'n' Roll
Despite all the amputations
You could just dance to a rock 'n' roll station
Jenny said when she was just five years old
My parents are gonna be the death of us all
Two TV sets and two Cadillac cars--
Ain't gonna help us at all
Then one fine mornin' she puts on a New York station
She don't believe what she heard at all
She started dancin' to that fine fine music
You know her life was saved by Rock 'n' Roll
Despite all the computations
You could just dance to a rock 'n ' roll station
And it was alright.

13. However, Throbbing Gristle is good for any occassion
SIX SIX SIXTIES
A tear blurs flesh
Dissolving
Like an injured dog
Like wasted limbs
Get smaller
Pain is the stimulus of pain
But then of course nothing is cured
This is the world now
Move a fin and the world turns
Sit in a chair and pictures change
Try to eat us
And get trapped
Or injured
Just

22. got a humorous story about something similar to that
when I was in college, I had a writing prof named Dave who was a big fan of TG and the Butthole Surfers. He was about 6 1/2 feet tall, about 250lbs, and had hair down to the middle of his back and a big beard. He was physically very intimidating, but was a gentle as a lamb.

At the time, our state rep. was a guy named Alan Quist: a very conservative, far-right fundie type who later ran for governor of Minnesota and got the endorsement over the popular incumbent "Rockefeller Republican" governor at the time (Quist lost in the primary, BTW, but that's another story).

So, it was around re-election time, and Quist was doorknocking around town, looking for support. He came to Dave's house, just as Dave was doing the dishes-- and listening to "Sweat Loaf" by the BH Surfers. Dave answers the door in his wife's frilly apron and he and Quist are having a pleasant conversation on the front porch.

Now, if you know anything about "Sweat Loaf", you know that the riff is not only ripped off from Black Sabbath's "Sweet Leaf", but that there's a spoken word intro part that ends with a low-pitched voice yelling "SATAN SATAN SATAN", right before the guitar riff kicks in.

Dave and Quist are talking, and the "SATAN" part of the song comes blaring out of the house. Quist flew about ten feet up in the air and ten feet backwards when that part came on, and scuttled out of there like a cockroach who got caught in the light.

So remember that one kids: when the fundie wackos come 'round, just pop in "Sweat Loaf" by the Butthole Surfers, and you'll stay Freeper-Free.

20. Great gig that I saw...
...Lyceum, London, England, 8 February 1981

Clock DVA, Cabaret Voltaire, Z'ev and Throbbing Gristle

Clock DVA had just released "Thirst", Cabs were at their peak, and TG were, well, TG, what could one say? You had to see (and hear) them to believe it.

...this was a great time for experimental/post punk. A few other highlights were Joy Division opening for The Buzzcocks in Hemel Hempstead 1979, Wire's gig at the Electric Ballroom in 1980, part of which ended up on the "Document & Eyewitness" set, Lydia Lunch and friends opening for the Birthday Party at the Venue, some of which ended up on the "Drunk on the Pope's Blood" set, Matt Johnson (The The) w/Manyika, Thomas Leer, Mal Malinder from Cabaret Voltaire, Kid Montana, Jim Thirlwell (aka Jim Foetus) and Marc Almond at the Marquee.:toast:

12. Your wish is my command, m'lady
If you're feeling sad and lonely,
There's a service I can render
Tell the one who loves you only
I can be so warm and tender

Call me
Don't be afraid, you can call me
Maybe it's late, but just call me
Tell me, and I'll be around

When it seems your friends desert you,
There's somebody thinking of you
I'm the one who'll never hurt you
Maybe that's because I love you

Call me
Don't be afraid, you can call me
Maybe it's late, but just call me
Tell me, and I'll be around

Now, don't forget me
'Cause if you let me,
I will always stay by you
You gotta trust me
That's how it must be
There's so much that I can do

If you call, I'll be right with you
You and I should be together
Take this love I long to give you
I'll be at your side forever

Call me
Don't be afraid, you can call me
Maybe it's late, but just call me
Tell me, and I'll be around

Call me
Don't be afraid, you can call me
Maybe it's late, but just call me
Tell me, and I'll be around

Now, don't forget me
'Cause if you let me,
I will always stay by you
You gotta trust me

Take this love I long to give you
I'll be at your side forever

Call me
Don't be afraid, you can call me
Maybe it's late, but just call me
Tell me, and I'll be around

You gotta call me
Call me now

27. You've been had.

There's a guitar leaning on a Marshall stack
Used to sound like the sun on the horizon
Now I think we've been had
There's a young girl screaming all the way in the back
Poor kid, she never saw it coming
Now she knows she's been had
Watching the label spinning on my turntable
There's no call waiting in my headphones
And every star that shines in the back of my mind
Is just waiting for its cover to be blown
There's an eardrum bleeding, yeah it's in my head
How could I still be so in love when I know
We've been had?
Republicans and Democrats can't give you the facts
Your parents won't tell you 'til you're grown
That every star that shines in the back of your mind
Is just waiting for its cover to be blown
Flashing the badges, just like the law of averages
Nobody likes 'em where they're from
And every star that hides on the back of the bus
Is just waiting for its cover to be blown

28. Damn, you're right
I looked it up, and they built this city on a swampland on the shores of Lake Michigan, and had to drop anchoring structures a hundred feet down to find bedrock capable of supporting high rise structures, leading to the vaults and underground streets in the city's Loop section.

Just call me disillusioned.

32. "LIAR" by Henry Rollins- classic!
You think you're gonna to live your life alone
In darkness
And seclusion
Yeah i know
You've been out there
Tried to mix with those animals
And it just left you full of humiliated confusion
So you stagger back home
And wait for nothing
But the solitary refinement of your room spits you back out onto the street
And now you're desperate
And in need of human contact
And then
You meet me
And you whole world changes
Because everything i say is everything you've ever wanted to hear
So you drop all your defenses and you drop all your fears
And you trust me completely
I'm perfect
In every way
Cause i make you feel so strong and so powerful inside
You feel so lucky
But your ego obscures reality
And you never bother to wonder why
Things are going so well
You wanna know why?
Cause i'm a liar
Yeah i'm a liar
I'll tear your mind out
I'll burn your soul
I'll turn you into me
I'll turn you into me
Cause i'm a liar, a liar
A liar, a liar

I'll hide behind a smile
And understanding eyes
And i'll tell you things that you already know
So you can say
I really identify with you, so much
And all the time that you're needing me
Is just the time that i'm bleeding you
Don't you get it yet?
I'll come to you like an affliction
And i'll leave you like an addiction
You'll never forget me
You wanna know why?
Cause i'm a liar
Yeah i'm a liar
I'll rip your mind out
I'll burn your soul
I'll turn you into me
I'll turn you into me
Cause i'm a liar, a liar
Liar, liar, liar, liar

I don't know why i feel the need to lie
And cause you so much pain
Maybe it's something inside
Maybe it's something i can't explain
Cause all i do
Is mess you up and lie to you
I'm a liar
Oh, i am a liar

If you'll give me one more chance
I swear that i will never lie to you again
Because now i see the destructive power of a lie
They're stronger than truth
I can't believe i ever hurt you
I swear
I will never to you lie again, please
Just give me one more chance
I will never lie to you again
I swear
That i will never tell a lie
I will never tell a lie
No, no
Ha ha ha ha ha hah haa haa haa haaa
Sucker
Sucker!
Oh, sucker
I am a liar
Yeah, i am a liar
Yeah i like it
I feel good
Ohh i am a liar
Yeah
I lie
I lie
I lie
Oh, i lie
Oh i lie
I lie
Yeah
Ohhh i'm a liar
I lie
Yeah
I like it
I feel good
I'll lie again
And again
I'll lie again and again
And i'll keep lying
I promise
