Serious Question. Do Doctors still prescribe diet pills?
I'm curious. My youngest is seriously overweight (6'1", 300 lbs.) He is active and watches what he eats but still can't lose any weight.
I was a bit overweight when I was 17 many, many, moons ago and I know diet pills (the non-prescribed ones, black beauties) brought me down to a weight that I have maintained for 20+ years.
With all this talk about diets, stomach stapling and all, I don't recall much talk about diet pills.
Do they still do that?

1. Some do because my ex DIL got some, but I don't know what
she had to tell him to get them. I think most Drs stopped prescribing them years ago.

You really have to be careful with them though. When DIL took them, she was an emotional wreck! Nervous, jumpy, and barking all the time!

2. LOL, when I was doing that as a kid...
I called it getting high.
Thanks for the info.

3. In the long run, they supposedly mess with
your blood pressure; I don't think it's a great idea, and I've lost weight on them in my distant past. :)

4. I don't know how many doctors do
But the health club I just joined has a Nurse-practitioner that prescribes them. I don't know which drugs are available or what each does--that would be something I'd suggest you research carefully before actually getting into. Then if you want to take the plunge check with your doctor.

5. I think they still do. But you can't get the good ones
like Dexedrine.

6. Phentermine is still prescribed.
It used to be prescribed along with fenfluramine--the phen-fen combination--until fenfluramine was pulled by the FDA for causing heart valve damage.
