12. It actually came from a critic in a newspaper |
|
Edited on Wed Aug-24-05 06:58 PM by EOO
It was during either the 7th or 8th seasons, and after a bad episode, the headline in a newspaper read "Worst. Episode. Ever." (it actually might have been TV Guide now that I think about it)
So Matt Groening stole the headline and had the Comic Book Guy say it over and over.
They tell the whole story about this on one of the commentaries, I forget which one.

16. Number One!! It's so misused I doubt people even get it anymore. |
|
The whole point of the construct is to use three words that stand alone as complete thoughts, and that together complete a whole thought. "Good.Food.Tonight." to advertise a restaurant, for instance, describes the restaurant as good, as having food, and suggests you can go there tonight. Not brilliant, but it works.
People here keep saying "Worst.President.Ever." as though they are just emphasizing the words. But while "Worst" works, it emphasizes that Bush is president in a way that almost praises Bush (Like the stickers that say "W: The President"), and then "ever" just doesn't work.
So I'm sick of that damned construct.
Overused. Inane. Cliche.
Okay, rant off. Use it if you want, I don't care. Really, I don't.

Why do I suddenly feel like a Bush supporter?
Actually, "making baby Jesus cry" was a guilt trip provided to young'uns for everything from "five-finger exercising" to not eating their peas.
It was around before the Simpsons, and thanks to them it will never again be taken seriously.
Same for politicians who say/said everything is done for the children.
