"She said I'll turn you on sonny to something strong..." (awesome song)
damn this is a great song....

:smoke:

Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Madman drummers bummers,
Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat
In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way into his hat
With a boulder on my shoulder, feelin' kinda older,
I tripped the merry-go-round
With this very unpleasin', sneezin' and wheezin,
the calliope crashed to the ground
The calliope crashed to the ground
But she was...
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Some silicone sister with a manager mister told me I go what it takes
She said "I'll turn you on sonny to something strong,
play the song with the funky break"
And go-cart Mozart was checkin' out the weather chart to see if it was safe outside
And little Early-Pearly came by in his curly-wurly and asked me if I needed a ride
Asked me if I needed a ride
But she was...
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light
She got down but she never got tired
She's gonna make it through the night
She's gonna make it through the night
But mama, that's where the fun is
But mama, that's where the fun is
Mama always told me not to look into the eye's of the sun
But mama, that's where the fun is
Some brimstone baritone anticyclone rolling stone preacher from the east
Says, "Dethrone the dictaphone, hit it in it's funny bone,
that's where they expect it least"
And some new-mown chaperone was standin' in the corner,
watching the young girls dance
And some fresh-sown moonstone was messin' with his frozen zone, reminding him of romance
The calliope crashed to the ground
But she was...
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light
Madman drummers bummers, Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat
In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way into his hat
With a boulder on my shoulder, feelin' kinda older,
I tripped the merry-go-round
With this very unpleasin', sneezin' and wheezin,
the calliope crashed to the ground
Now Scott with a slingshot finially found a tender spot and throws his lover in the sand
And some bloodshot forget-me-not said daddy's within earshot save the buckshot, turn up the band
Some silicone sister with a manager mister told me I go what it takes
She said "I'll turn you on sonny to something strong"

2. Song would be even more of a classic if half the country didn't believe
the wrong lyrics! One of the best ever.

3. Normally I'd love the song..but in 1977
I used to hear it play endlessly on the radio (that and torn between two lovers) when I had insomnia as a kid...

bad bad memories...

and no-- i never got the lyrics wrong-- I heard it toooo often. :)

5. From the repetition, looks like the Manfred Mann version
I really like the album that's on, The Roaring Silence. Lots of great stuff on there, like "Singing the Dolphin Through", "The Road to Babylon", "Questions", etc. They really give that tune the treatment, too.

Not to take anything away from Springsteen of course...

8. For You
Performed by Manfred Mann's Earth Band
Written by Bruce Springsteen

Princess cards she sends me with her regards,
Oh, bar-room eyes shine vacancy
To see her you gotta look hard
Wounded deep in battle, I stand stuffed like some soldier undaunted
To her cheshire smile I'll stand on file
She's all I ever wanted
You let your blue walls stand in the way of these facts, honey
Get your carpet baggers off my back
Girl give me time to cover my tracks
You said, "Here's your mirror and your ball and jacks"
But they're not what I came for
Oh I came for so much more
And I know you that too
And I know you know that's true

I came for you
I came for you
I came for you
For you
I came for you

Crawl into my ambulance
Your pulse is getting weak
Reveal yourself all to me now
While you've got the strength to speak
'Cause they're waiting for you at Bellevue
With their oxygen masks
But I could give it all to you now
If only you could ask
Don't call for your surgeon
Even he says it's late
It's not your lungs this time
But your heart holds your fate
Don't give me my money back
Don't want it anymore
It's not that nursery mouth I came back for
It's not the way you're stretched out on the floor
I've broken all your windows
And I've rammed through all your doors
Who am I to ask you to fight my wars
And you should know that's true
You should know that too

I came for you
I came for you
I came for you
For you
I came for you

Don't call for your surgeon
Even he says it's late
It's not your lungs this time
But your heart holds your fate
Don't give me my money back
Don't want it anymore
It's not that nursery mouth I came back for
It's not the way you're stretched out on the floor
I've broken all your windows
And I've rammed through all your doors
Who am I to ask you to fight my wars
You should know that's true
You should know that too

I came for you
I came for you
I came for you
For you
I came for you

9. How many songs did Springsteen write for them?
And why? There's a story there, I'll bet.

13. Well according to Wiki,
Edited on Wed Aug-24-05 11:59 PM by hickman1937
The breakthrough for the band in the US was when they had a number 1 hit with Bruce Springsteen's "Blinded By The Light"). While the Springsteen version from 1973's Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J. album has a folky, acoustic sound, the Manfred Mann's Earth Band version is driving rock, combining Mann's Moog and organ work with, on the album version, a superb guitar solo from Flett. Manfred can be heard singing at the end of Blinded By The Light, in the round, with Thompson - it was this feature of the song that initially attracted him. The band took advantage of the publicity and re-released another Springsteen song, Spirits in The Night, which had been recorded the previous year on Nightingales and Bombers, originally with Rogers on vocals although for some territories it was re-recorded with a vocal from Thompson.

But I find that wiki has a lot holes in their stories.
edit for crummy typing twice.

14. So the wiki theory appears to be
"our biggest hit was a minor Springsteen song, so let's keep recording them?"

Not very satisfying. x(

15. Bruce Springsteen is notoriously protective of his songs.
Edited on Thu Aug-25-05 12:22 AM by hickman1937
There's still a story there, probably a banal one.
Maybe he was just a fan.
Edit for bad spelling and grammar.

16. Couldn't find anything good, but I did find that they
didn't actually record much of their own stuff. They also covered Bob Dylan, Robbie Robertson, the Shirelles, the Exciters.

Some bands are just better at doing other people's stuff.

11. If you ever ride the number six train in NY
Right as the train is starting to move it makes a sound that sounds just like the guitar leading into the chorus. I'm constantly hearing that sound and singing "The calliope crashed to the ground"
