I'm going to coach my son's pee-wee soccer team!
The Youth Soccer Association called me and asked me if I'd do it. I'll have six 4 and 5 year olds on the team. It sounds cool and frightening at the same time. The pee-wee leagues don't keep score nor do they have goalkeepers. The registrar for the league said that the biggest challenge at that level is to make sure they kick the ball in the same direction and don't try to pick it up.

I've never coached before, but it looks like fun.

2. good for you
At this age though I am afraid you can't teach them much. Just make sure the kids have lots and lots of fun.

It is worth it just to see the joy in their eyes.

5. Yeah, fun is what that league is all about.

I just want to get 'em all in the game and let 'em run and scream to their heart's content. I'm also going to institute the after-game ice cream cone rule.

6. coached for 17 plus years in youth soccer
trust me the biggest challenge tru the next years of coaching,oh you thought it was just one year?,will be a few parents who think their child is the next pele or mia. some kids may be a pain but 99% of them are good kids. yes they have a habit of playing rugby instead of "football". but trust me as they get older it`s the best sport to coach in the world. get some info on youth coaching on the internet ,read it,then figure out what apply`s to you and your kids...always remember that`s it is supposed to be fun for everyone and always be nice to the referee...in fact try refereeing a game then you`ll know what i mean. good luck in herding, remember you can`t use dogs and the kids can hear absolutely nothing you are saying to them on the field....have fun!

7. Good advice. Thanks.
I knew I was getting in for the long haul, too. The registrar who recruited me told me that a lot of the coaches who start in pee-wee move up in leagues with their kids. That's how it was for my daughter's old coach. He moved into U-12 when his son aged into it. I'm sure that I'll probably do the same.

8. I'm anxious for next summer when my daughter turns 4.
I want to be an ultra supporter for her team. Organize little things like this:

10. Soccer, as an organized sport in the U.S., is the loneliest team sport
you'll ever play, coach, or be assigned snack duty to.

11. It's quite popular at the kiddie level.
At least here in the CenTex area. Interest levels off in the teens, though. Even Lockhart High has a soccer team, though, so there's hope.
