My turn: I don't like cilantro. |
|
It's the only food-type thing I just don't like. It tastes like chlorine to me. Like when you got water up your nose at the pool. I recently learned that this condition is genetic. It doesn't taste like chlorine to those withoput the gene. Honest.

1. I am also not a fan of cilantro |
|
And why is it that restaurants insist on absolutely smothering an entree with that foul herb?

7. It is the yuckiest thing |
|
I bought some salad to have for lunch on Monday - it was a herb salad and I discovered that it was infected with corriander. I had to go through the whole thing fishing it all out.
Nasty nasty nasty stuff.

34. I discovered cilantro when I came to Texas to live. I just LOVE |
|
it. Guess I don't have the gene.
Glad of that, I must say.
It just puts the extra oomph in so many things.
I put it in my home made chili, green chile stew, and tortilla soup
And salsa, of course..

It's a strong herb, a little goes a long way. Unfortunately most places put way too much in their dishes.

14. Funny....I used too much cilantro in my cooking once |
|
and now I can hardly stand it. Sometime I forget to tell them to hold it in various ethnic restaurants, and I can hardly make it through the meal. I can stand a little in salsa, but I can taste the cilantro in with all the other flavors. I always thought it tasted very strongly of water, if water actually had a taste. I wonder if I have that gene?

19. You just haven't met the "right cilantro". |
|
And don't tell me you were born not liking cilantro - it's a lifestyle choice! We've all got to work together to "protect traditional salsa" from the anti-cilantro agenda.

22. I used to love it, but now I'm allergic. |
|
A few years ago, it started tasting like soap and then, next thing you know, if I eat it, my esophagus swells, I get really nauseous and bloated and have massive acid reflux. I inadvertently ate some about three weeks ago and very nearly went to the emergency room over it.

in recipes..so if one person doesn't like it, I can make it without cilantro and let everyone else add theirs

How interesting. It's things like this that make me wish I were omnicscient. I want to know WHY it's genetic.
I must say, it's too bad. I love the stuff, it's up there with basil to me.

I don't mind it.
I really like taragon in a lot of foods you wouldn't think of adding it to. Makes potatoe salad taste gourmet. It has a wonderful after-flavor.

If it's in something I won't pick it out, but if it's sitting there prominently, I will.
