The simple, undeniable fact is that we humans are omnivores, and omnivoruos behavior includes eating meat. All us omnivores do it; nothing to be ashamed of.
I just get pissed off at people who act like they want to pretend what they're eating isn't animal flesh, like those who can't stand to touch or cut raw meat for cooking, or the ones who get "grossed out" watching me eat my steak rare. If you find meat repulsive, DON'T EAT IT. If you're gonna eat meat, at least acknowledge what it is.

I have to say I 100% agree with your second paragraph. I've got no problems with people who eat meat, but I personally think people ought to watch the videos from slaughterhouses and see what it is they're eating. If they're okay with it then fine. But I too know many people who are the "eeewww! I don't want to KNOW what it is!" type.

5. PETA has good intentions - though a bit extreme. |
|
I will eat NO 'industrial' meat (Safeway et al).... but I NEED meat sometimes. I am fortunate that I have 3 stores nearby that sell free-range meat. I have no problem w/ animals as a food source - my issue is their treatment.
PS - Ever heard of PETA? People for the Eating of Tasty Animals. I have one of their buttons.

I like the groups ideals, but think they've let in too many extremists. I wany my cow to have had a good life before I eat him.
I'm rambling... and BTW - the OP changed the post(?!)

But PeTA has been marked as an extremist, terrorist group...people don't realize that there are extremists in every group, but in this particular case, PeTA's extremists are magnified by the meat industry. PeTA's core values and goals are what I'd bet a vast majority of Americans believe in. I don;t agree with everything they do, but I don't agree with everything the Dems do, or Clinton did...or whatever. But I'm still a Clinton-loving Dem ;)
Yes, I too noticed the OP changed the first post...strange.

6. It is true that PETA encourages the vegan lifestyle |
|
But it has as much to do with the cruel and painful treatment that animals receive before that shit ends up on your dinner table as it does with your health, which can be affected by the steroids and antibiotics that end up in your meat and in your body.
So, don't give me any of this redneck, religious bullshit.
Thanks,
Floog

Good response to the "tasty animals" post. :)
Notice, the original poster has edited his or her post, which originally communicated, "screw PETA, I love meat and eat meat because God gave it to me," to "I love bunnies."
Amazing.

And yet the same 5 or 6 people chime in right on cue with their usual "PLANTS DIE TOO!!" or "WHAT ABOUT PESTICIDES!?" or "I LOVE PETA! PEOPLE FOR THE EATING OF TASTY ANIMALS!" comments, time and time and time again.
I'm floored by the junior-high-ness of it all.

How did I know you'd show up here to have some good ol' vegetarian-bashing fun!
Alright so you're here, where are the other veggie-bashing regulars who come out of the woodwork only for these threads? Catholic Sensation? I think we need some personal insults on veggies in here.

You know that these kinds of threads just result in flame wars. This one is not particularly fun. Continuing to post flame bait is also against the DU rules. "just sayin"
