4. I just started this Saturday
Every night, the TV goes off, the computer chair goes in front of the TV, and the kids sit on the couch. I sit in the chair and read until it looks like they're dozing off.

6. They both read quite a bit without anyone telling to
I just can't help but notice that the schools don't teach anything not on the TAKS test these days. So, I decided to expose my children to exellent literature. They're 9 and 11...we will progress from here!

3. I read them as a kid
Thought it was time they read them too. I suggested it, but was told that they have library books from school to read. That's nice children, now we're going to read a REAL book.

10. The first day it was
"Don't you think we're a little old for story time?" My response was we'll call it Literature Exposure Time. They now ask when we're going to do "that literature thing".

11. What a great idea!
Edited on Fri Aug-26-05 01:34 AM by LouisianaLiberal
I recommended exactly this to a friend with a troubled five year old. (He was suspended from kindergarten this morning.) She is a single mother and she allows this intelligent boy to watch as much TV and play as many video games as he likes. He can't concentrate on any single thing for more than a moment, and he is combative with everyone except me.

12. I have an ADHD/Aspie kid
I know all about them not being able to sit still or pay attention. The only thing that he will sit for is a video game. Right now, he's grounded from everything, so no games. Read all you want, no electronic entertainment of any kind.
