Why am I not sleeping?
It's 2:30 AM, I've been up since 6 AM, and I have to get up at 6 AM again tomorrow (OK, later today). So, why am I not asleep? I don't even feel tired.

2. LOL
I've been reading 1984 into the wee hours lately, but didn't feel like it tonight. I think it may have been slight DU withdrawal.

So what do you think of Orwell's fun book? I remember reading it in 1971, and I was sure even then that we were in for things worse than what what was happening during that era. Of course, I was, (and still am for the most part), a rebellious hippie. Sometimes being unconventional offers insight to the order of conventionality and conformity.

on edit: Damn! Did I just write that? Hell...the pipe needs a refill...

6. The book is spooky
So many similarities to what we're dealing with now.

7. Orwell was a man possessed of great imagination
with an uncanny instinct in trapping the reader by his use of what we all experience daily within western cultural society, and drawing on, expanding, and pounding home the stresses that hover as fear in our lives. He also understood socialism very well.

(Damn, that pipe refill went well!)

I loved Animal Farm. At the time, had just finished reading Dr. Zhivago. I was fascinated by the Bolshevik revolution. ...that was waaaay back in '68-69.

9. I agree
I read Animal Farm in high school (late eighties), but I don't remember much. It's next on my list.

Well, I have to get up in three hours. Looks like I'll sleep AFTER the kids go to school. Damn, I need a job!

3. The possibilities are myriad
Chemical (too much caffeine/nicotine/other drugs or medications), psychological/psychiatric (stress/anxiety/manic phase of bipolar disorder, etc.), biological (circadian rythym thrown off for some reason, pain, illness you don't yet know you have, etc.).

I have no idea if any of these issues affect you, I'm just throwing out possibilities....

4. Well....
I always drink a ton of caffeine, if I don't I get headaches. It doesn't normally keep me up. (I think the :smoke: counters it!) I have no diagnosis of anything psych-wise, but that doesn't mean that there isn't anything. My sinuses did start up a little while ago, I can feel the fluid in my ears and my face hurts. Normally, I just want to sleep until it goes away.

17. It could just be a big fluke
Most people have occasional bouts of insomnia for no apparent reason. However the sinus condition may be part of the problem...I know if my sinuses are bothering me it interferes with my sleep (although I have big-time insomnia problems so lots of things interfere with my sleep).

8. Probably because you are thinking about it too much.
A holistic method is to sit in a chair and read til you're sleepy and then go to bed.

Sweet dreams when they do come.

20. Really?
That would suck. I've heard of lactose intolerance, but never causing migraines.

22. I'm not lactose intolerant
I can eat cheese and ice cream. I just can't drink milk. i could as a kid, but by my teen years, every time I drank milk, I was down with a migraine. It generally does not go away until the milk leaves me by either exit (it's not picky, it just wants OUT).

11. Maybe so
I just thought about it, and I did have to run for the albuterol inhaler a couple of times today. That doesn't usually wire me up, but the breathing treatments do.

16. I KNOW! I KNOW! I Know why you're not sleeping!!
You've been having synapse moments! Your brain is making new connections!! Your dendrites and terminals are in the ON mode as new synapses are occuring!

.and to think...you didn't even have to sleep at a Holiday Inn Express to make this happen... :woohoo:
