Grumpy day today thanks to Wells Fargo. (rant)

Last year Wells Fargo made mistakes with my accounts that ended up costing me a few hundred dollars I couldn't afford. Because I was pretty much non-functional, I didn't catch all their mistakes until it was too late to blame them for it instead of myself. They wouldn't cut me a break and I had to pay them.

Today I wasn't feeling well. I've been having a lot of neck pain this week and today Wells Fargo called me TWICE to let me know about an exciting insurance program I could buy in the event I ever became disabled. I already AM disabled, you idiots.

Both times I had almost drifted off to a much-needed sleep when the phone rang. The first time I wasn't overly miffed, although I recalled the brouhaha that left me in even more debt than I could handle. I remembered how rudely the bank had treated me, but tried to tell myself it wasn't the caller's fault. The second time they called, I really was miffed. Why hadn't the first caller marked my name off the list?

I interrupted the bank rep to tell him I already was disabled. There was a slight pause and then he said--get this: "Well, if you DECIDE to go back to work--"

I interrupted him. "Decide?" I asked. "DECIDE?!?"

:sarcasm: Oh yeah, I'll just wake up tomorrow morning and feel so damn good that I could put in a full ten-hour day. After all, I decided years ago that having major depression would be a damn fine thing. I also decided that sleep apnea and diabetes were totally my style. Then I decided that having a couple of herniated discs in my neck would round off things nicely. :eyes:

Idiot.

"Decide????"

Why am I still banking with these idiots? Oh yeah, it's because I don't have the energy to switch over to anyone else.

Maybe I'll make a special effort to work up the energy. :grr:

Sometimes that Wells Fargo wagon can be a pain. Sorry to hear you had a bad day. A change of banks is long overdue and not really that hard unless you have automatic deposits and/or payments set up. Make sure you mention the crass telemarketing when you ask to close your accounts.

Hope you have a better day tomorrow, or is it today. Decide to listen to some high energy rock and roll. That usually helps me.

I was working (in mortgage lending) for a bank that WF bought back in the early 90's. They were ruthless AND hateful. My partner was a branch manager with 30 years experience. When he moved to San Diego from the San Joaquin valley area, he brought several accounts worth tens of millions with him, because the customers trusted him with their money. Wells wanted to cut the payroll and installed 25 year-old "bankers" in the place of many, many experienced people. Now what wet-behind-the-ears kid would you trust 5 million with? they replaced him while he was on a medical leave.

As a customer, I had nightmare experiences with them as well. Nothing I said made any difference to them. They wanted their fees and, by god they were going to get them.

RUN, do not walk away from WF Bank. I know that all banks want to make your money theirs, but Wells is the bottom of the heap, as far as I am concerned. In their eyes, the customer is ALWAYS wrong.

4. Look around. There may just be a credit union you can join.
I remember seeing one in South St. Paul, MN that you could join simply by providing proof of residence in that town. It didn't matter what industry you worked in.

Credit unions have been somewhat emasculated by the banking industry in the past couple decades, but they are still a far cry better than just about any bank. I had some problems with my accounts a couple of times due to the crazy way they used to handle debit purchases, and didn't realize it would cause my account balance to fall into the negatives for a time even though I really did have enough money. They were good to me about reversing the NSF fees and just let me off with a warning. No bank that I know of would do that.

If you can't join a credit union, whatever the hell you do, DON'T switch to Bank of America. If anything, they're every bit as bad, if not worse. I nearly ended up evicted and everything else, a year before it came to that anyway, because of B of A's utter ignorance. It's a long story, but the short version is that something my wife and I did at their ATM's at least 7 or 8 times prior, was suddenly no good for them because someone happened to catch the mismatched signature (my signature on a check deposited into a platinum account that had only her name on it). And then there was the time we wanted to deposit a gift check from Jeanette's mother and they refused to take it over some ridiculous thing, and the manager of the branch was rude as hell. Anyway, you get the idea.

Good luck finding a better financial institution, if there indeed is such a thing. :)
