Texan farmer May Have Caught Legendary 'Chupacabra'

Mysterious Animal Kills Chickens, Turkeys

POSTED: 9:31 am CDT August 25, 2005
UPDATED: 9:47 am CDT August 25, 2005

COLEMAN, Texas -- A Texas farmer may have found what some would call a "chupacabra," a legendary animal known for sucking the blood out of goats.

Reggie Lagow set a trap last week after a number of his chickens and turkeys were killed.

What he found in his trap was a mix between a hairless dog, a rat and a kangaroo.

The mystery animal has been sent to Texas Parks and Wildlife in hopes of determining what it is.

4. It looks rather like a coyote
with mange (or something similar) to me.

There are various (unpleasant) images available at google images for comparison, if you type in "coyote mange".

5. Nto sure about a coyote, but definitely a canid of some sort
No scale or discussion of size, so who knows how big it is? but three things to me seem to disqualify coyote: short muzzle, large ears, and very long tail.

If it's a small creature, could it be a fox of some sort?

I might have to do some google image searching, this is interesting.

7. Perhaps it's not a coyote,
although there is some variation in most any species. And an animal can be malformed at birth or from illness (particularly long-term illness) or hunger -- or all three.

Coyotes being very numerous, I will stay with that guess for the moment.

But yeah, looks to be a canid of some sort -- could be a fox -- or some canid mix.

6. That is weird.
Looks kind of like a coyote or wolf w/o hair. But the tail and back legs look Kangaroo-ish. Weird. And the poor thing looked emaciated.

9. Devastating. Tragic. Misguided. Unsly.
Thank you for the warning, UL.
The one looks like a turkey, the others is a sad hoax,
with emphasis on sad and and and hoax. The real mixed
animal, from whernce all this stems:
