My brother used to have one of those tall vertical tanks that were really popular in the late 70s/80s.

We have this great picture of our old cat Tiger sitting there eye to eye with this fish. It's hilarious, but I think it's at my mom's house, unfortunately.

35. Papillon, 9 months named Cavi
Cute as a button but stubborn sometimes. Currently, I'm trying to get him to eat his food. I made the mistake of feeding him little snacks from my food and now he won't eat his food. The snacks did get him to learn to sit very quickly though. He whines instead of barking when he wants a snack which makes me feel guilty and then I give him more pieces of my food. His whine is so cute it's more like a little "hmmmmm" whine rather than some obnoxious squeaky continuous whine. I know I shouldn't have even started the bad habit. It's my fault, I know. My bad!

Edited on Fri Aug-26-05 02:49 PM by peacebuzzard

Bella age 8 with a friend.

Mikey, the youngest and spunkiest (tries to be the crew leader) age 3

Viuva, (found in streets of Rio de Janeiro very wasted) approx. age? 6?

Rudy, my companion-protector age 6

Savannah, my newest addition, age 2 My first kitty and mouse & bug hunter.

In memoriam, Jake (sitting on ground--that is Bella again, in car, waiting for a ride)
Jake was the sweetest dog ever rescued--had a horrible first 10 years- in a junk yard for 5 and tied to a chain for 5 years. He lived 5 years with me in utter happiness and sweetness.
Died in Oct 2001.

P.S. Bella, Savannah and Jake are rescues from throw away or be killed situations and Mikey, Rudy, and Viuva are straight from the streets.

65. Much more work than most people think!
People think they're such easy pets to care for, but in truth they are one of the most demanding.

Ours are all "Easter bunny leftovers" (bunnies purchased by parents for their kids, and *every* time, the novelty wears off in a few weeks). Bunnies need to be groomed regularly and kept in very specific living conditions. They should be kept in a fairly large cage but ONLY with a nesting box so they aren't standing on wire 24/7. The cage needs to be off the ground and covered on the top, back, and at least one side and faced away from the wind and the way the rain comes in (you'd be surprised how many people think a cage set on the ground with no top or sides outside is sufficient). They also need a balanced diet of oats, pellets, hay, and the occasional yogurt treat. Ours are unfortunately outside (which isn't ideal at all) so we are careful to provide plenty of straw to nest in their boxes during the colder months and frozen soda bottles with water in them everyday in the summer months. I wouldn't recomment bunnies to many people (especially not those with kids), and even then only if they kept them indoors. All my animals are well cared for, but these poor bunnies outside don't get as much attention and interaction as they deserve. Ideally, people would keep them in their homes like they would a kitty, and litterbox train them. Of course, then you shouldn't have small kids who could unknowingly hurt them, and you also have to be careful to train them so they don't chew on wires...

Well, that turned into a longer paragraph than I intended, lol ;) Other than that, they are good pets, but not for those with small children and they are MUCH more work than people think. Although they don't particularly like to be held, they are a lot of fun to watch if you housetrain them and can let them roam around your house :) Our one bunny who was indoors used to get a running start and just do these kittle kangaroo hops all around the living room! He'd also chase our kitty (only had one then) and they had many great games of chase!

56. Tall order...
Five cats: 15, 14, 13, 10 and four.
Three dogs: 12, 12 and three.

All are strays or hand-me-downs, so it's hard to be precise.

63. The surviving quints
Jessica - 14

Jean Luc - 11

Garibaldi - 10

Delenn - 10 (sister of Garibaldi)

Oliver - about 3 (that's what I've been told)

I'm hesitating to get another one, but if I get my own house, I might do it. It usually is a matter of them finding me, most of the time--Amanda was my friend Marje's cat before Marje died, and I adopted her two years ago as a result; Oliver was my friend's mom's cat before she passed away in May, so I adopted him then.

If I get my own house, I might also think about getting a dog.

64. My dog turns 12 on Nov. 1
We adopted him from the Humane Scoiety when he was 8. He has slowed down a little bit, but still goes for walks, plays, and jumps into the car, bed, and other relatively high objects for his size.

69. I have Two Grumpy Old Men (cats)
Smoke is 14, a grey long-hair domestic.

Sterling is 10, a silver Persian.

Actually, they are both great cats, affectionate and with lots of personality. They definitely don't act their age, either, so I'm hoping I have them for a long time.

76. Six cats:
Tommy, my orange tabby, is at least 11; my husband has no idea how old he might have been when they first met in 1994.

Clarisse is a mostly white calico (calico ears and tail) about 8.5 years old.

Ivan is probably under 2, he showed up (literally blew onto our doorstep, stick and skinny) right after Hurricane Ivan; he's now a strapping 20lb tuxedo.

Novi showed up about 4 months ago, I have no idea how old she is. I'd guess between 3-4 yrs. She's a tortie, and she brought us her three babies, two of which I haven't found homes for and might just end up keeping. The babes are probably 4 months old, and both are orange tabbies.

Kodi is slowing down now very fast. I fear this is her last hurrah this fall. if she lasts til her birthday (Dec 25), she (and I) will be fortunate. Kodi has been my faithful loving buddy and best friend since I got her at 7 weeks.

she is sleeping by me as I type. i will cry like a baby when she goes.
