Edited on Fri Aug-26-05 04:03 PM by liberalnurse
I almost had a 3-day weekend. I agreed to go in for a 12-hour shift since it's charge pay and per diem. I can use the spare change in D.C. next month.
What a ying/yang moment.:spank:

1. Ugh yeah. I hated getting the calls to go in. |
|
But the extra money was always cool.
I can rememebr being only scheduled for 8 hours until 11pm and got asked to stay for another shift. "Sure, just let me keep these patients versus making be switch." "No problem." 16 hour shifts from 3pm to 7 am are tough, but they bring their own rewards if your patients are neat people to be with, and this happened to be a good group.

Charge nurse tells me: "You have an admit coming up now. You also have a post-op coming up now. Take care of them both. Now."
Me: Are you telling me I shouldn't do the post-op first? Because I see that as my priority based on the transfer calls I got."
"No, I'm not telling you that. You just have to take care of them both now."
Me: "Well, I was on my way to the room to receive the post-op. I have his pain med. I'll do the admit as soon as I take him."
"No, you have to do both of them now." :wtf:
"I cannot be in two places at once, so I'm going to the post-op patient's room first."
I got criticized for not being in two places at once. The admit was far less involved or needing nursing care as I knew from the phone transfer orders. I never did figure out what she was wanting me to do, and I never could get her to tell me.

Well, the money is going to a good cause. The D.C Protest! I'm driving there and staying near the Capitol. I be there from Thursday to Tuesday. I may as well enjoy the sites too!
My next adventure is to the ONA State Nursing Convention in October. I'm a delegate!
