So my landlord entered my apartment while I was away today... |
|
unplugged my computer, complained about the video camera sitting on my desk and says it makes her uncomforable, talks over me barely lets me talk then hangs up when I tried to respond... keep in mind this is an apartment manager not my room-mate anyway today has been a really crappy day. *sigh*

1. For what reason was your landlord in your place? |
|
I don't believe it's legal for them to simply pop in for no reason when you're not there, though I admit I don't know the law on this.

2. Landlords may have the legal right, but some of them abuse it. |
|
I had one landlord that I discovered had brought his mistress to my place and had sex. Needless to say, within a week I was gone from there.

5. To enter without notice? |
|
In a non-emergency situation?
Not anywhere I've ever lived.

11. This happened to me in Houston, 15 or so years ago. |
|
I was renting a residence, not an apartment. He had the key, he used it. I don't know the legal facts about my situation, I just knew I wanted to get the hell out of there. It was just too weird.

3. In most places that's illegal if you weren't given notice of entry and |
|
there wasn't an emergency.
You said "landlord" and "apartment manager." Is this person the actual owner. If not, I'd contact the owner.
Sorry that happened. It would piss me off.

She entered my apartment to fix a major leak from my water heater which took her 3 days to finally do, the previous day she told us that she was coming with maintenance between 10AM and 2PM, we left around 7AM to do landry and about 30 Min's after we left (per maintenance) that is when she made entry in my apartment when we came back she started bitching and moaning about the camera on my desk (which is none of her damn affairs IMO) anyway she also claimed that the maintenance guy felt very uncomfortable about it as well so when he came back about 45 Min's later I asked him myself if it made him feel uncomfortable right off the bat he told me no and added if someone came into his apartment unexpected he would want a camera there too. By the way the camera was on my desk because I had just used it to take pictures of the mess the leak made.
Keep in mind this is the same woman who harrassed the cable guy when he was installing cable then called my apartment wanting to know if I had cable.

has no say in being comfortable or not while in your domicile THAT YOU ARE PAYING FOR. Makes me wonder if she's into stealing and is acting out of self-interest and/or guilt. Your place of residence does not have to be set up for anyone's comfort but your own. She has a job to do, and your home is your own business. Either move, if you can, or write a letter to the owner or company that owns the building. They need to know that the person they hired to manage is not on top of things, and also lies. Also, google landlord tenant law for your state. It's pretty specific stuff.

9. I'm a landlord, and that's illegal. When you pay the rent, it's your |
|
place to enjoy, not the manager's.
You should call the cops and report an illegal entry.

10. call the police, file a report: illegal entry/tresspassing |
|
in ca must give 24 hours notice AND a legitimate reason as in a repair is required or has been requested. cannot enter with 24 hours notice just to "look around".

13. Up here that also has to be in writing, and between 8am and 8pm |
|
. . .
upgrading is questionable
I once kicked a landlord off of the property who decided to put a deck on the side of the house one morning when I had a raging hangover
the "upgrade" was not necessary, nor requested -
and never happened . .

14. well, i hear'ya on that one but should have stipulated... |
|
"upgrades" are to be considered as such, reasonably scheduled & completed in a timely manner  but no unwarranted fiddle-fucking with the contents of a rented space; that is an invasion bridging upon infringement & breaching notions of freedom & liberty at it's base, short of conducting illegal, or pernicious enterprise from said rental space which of course...i do not conduct.

15. You should look in your lease |
|
My contract specifically states the rules for entry without my presence. It is none of her business what you have on your desk. In addition, she should have no reason to be uncomfortable of a video camera if her behavior is appropriate while in your apartment.

16. When I rented I always changed the door locks |
|
Mainly because I knew the previous tenant had a key and maybe many others. I never offered a duplicate to the landlord and they never requested one.
