Is March of the Penguins appropriate/interesting for a six year old? |
|
I'm thinking of taking my kid to see this in about an hour.... is the mating too much? My kid wouldn't enjoy a dating film like "Must Love Dogs", LOL, is she going to be interested by penguins?
I know some of you have taken your kids....just looking to see if a)they like it, and b)the mating/lovey doviness/death stuff gets out of hand. What do they show, for example, and whether just six is okay with that (she's seen Lion King, most Disney movies, etc.).

the children I know loved it overall, with one exception. The part where the penguin gets killed by the polar bear upset some of the younger ones (5-7) very much

2. Is it a "he's going to eat him" thing, or is it a five minute "he's eating |
|
him because the wild is a dangerous place to live" where they dwell on it? Or is it suggested?

it was the children of friends, but I do remember the mom saying the penguin ended up dead, but I can't believe it was elaborate, and her 9 year old girl wasn't bothered by it. I'd call and ask her but she's on vacation at the moment.

...near a polar bear? They're from opposite ends of the globe?

7. it's a joke -- the film is perfectly suitable for toddlers |
|
of course there was no polar bear
as far as mating all you see is some neck nuzzling
lots of kids in the audience, including toddlers
they seemed to love it

8. It was a walrus or a sea otter that ate the penguin. |
|
FWIW, my 8 year old son was just immensely BORED by the film.
It isn't much like how it's being advertised on Nicelodeon, more of a strict documentary style.

9. please don't take your kids if they are going to make noise |
|
I personally do not think it would be interesting enough to a young kid, it's not action-packed, it is not "fun," and it is not different than a documentary about any other subject. When I saw it, there were a lot of kids in the audience that got bored and starting screaming things, really ruined the mood of the movie.
