made in 1980. :wow: X was in that one, too, along with darby crash and the germs, catholic discipline, circle jerks, fear, black flag before henry rollins and a few others that escape me...I found it on a torrent site and downloaded it. it looked like a camcording of an 8MM film projected on a screen.

thanks for this thread!! this will be a "must see" for me.

2. Right on!
One of the best rock docs ever, and certainly one of the best re; the "punk" era, IMVHO.

How bout that scene w/ the drummer (J.D.?) doing that crazy count thing w/, what 3,4,and 5? Freaky. never showed the vhs to a drummer who didn't flip on that one....

5. DJ Bonebrake is the drummer. I'm glad it has that effect on actual
drummers; it certainly does on me. (The "How does he DO that?" effect, that is.)

3. Unheard Music = Best Rock Movie EVER
It's so cool, fun, entertaining, enlightening and awesome. It's been out for a couple months now, actually... there's also a new X live concert video from 2004 "X Live in Los Angeles" with Billy Zoom. Plus, the Knitters are touring again... probably get to see them next month!

Good to hear from another X fan!

6. Memories, memories. My flaming youth, Pt. II.
Last time I saw X live was in 1993, in Santa Fe, at the now-defunct Club Luna.

X fan Kevin Costner's Wyatt Earp had just wrapped, and while Costner himself was already back in L.A., the club was crawling with production people of various sorts.

So one smarmy little jerk decided to hit on what he clearly assumed was a provincial, albeit a reasonably attractive one. (I'd just turned 50 but looked 15 years younger, esp. in the dark club.)

"So," he says, "this the first time you've seen X?"

"Nope," I sez.

"You've seen 'em before?" he says, clearly skeptical. "Where?"

"In L.A.," I sez.

"Where in L.A.?" he demands to know.

So I took a deep breath, and told him:

"The Whiskey, Club 88, Madame Wong's, John Anson Ford Theatre, Santa Monica Civic, Universal Amphitheatre, The Starwood, Cathay de Grande..."

"Oh wow! he says, awed right out of his 'tude. "Cathay de Grande! I've heard about that place..."

*****

Damn, those were good days. Almost made up for missing that other L.A. music scene, 15 years before.

11. That was a pretty good scene. I'll give you some more clubs....
Al's Bar, Hong Kong, Blackies, Brave Dog, Vex. There was a cool club in HB on the water and and one in Seal Beach. And one in Fullerton. What about Godzillas, Santa Monica Civic, Perkins Palace and a westwood clothing store called Village Mews that used to have live gigs.

12. Why isn't this band in The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.....

I have seen X so many times...They have simply the most amazing sound.

Look how many Alternative/Emergent Country/Folk/Rock/Punk bands they have influenced.

Billy Zoom is a World Class guitarist...John and Exene are poets and lyricist for all generations...

John has that voice...and weren't we lucky that Exene is there point and contra point.

The DVD is grand....but then, ..Ain't Love Grand...
