1. frankly, I'm expecting some very good programming
A combo project between the BBC and HBO, 7 years in the making and considered the most ambitious project by either entity. The best television, hands down, has been HBO. Everything thing else has just been run-of-the-mill bullshit network television.

I look forward to ROME.

2. Yep, nothing better than HBO, I was iffy on Rome but you just
motivated me to give it a chance.

13. Sounded good on paper
But the NYT review of it was not very kind.

I'll still be curious to see it, however.

7. I went with Brit accents
Such a shame, we won't see the likes of types like Edward G Robinson, who brought a certain American tough-guy panache to performances in The Ten Commandments and The Robe!! "Wheyas youah messiah now???" was a classic line...I was waiting for the "See?" and the Cheneylike sneer to go along with it!!!

11. Historically accurate.
Where do you think the so-called "British" accent came from? Invading Romans, of course.

4. I don't know, but it ain't never gonna beat I, CLAUDIUS
The medium's crowning achievement. You haven't lived until you've seen the real Livia in action (and I'm not referring to Tony's mother).

Oh, and don't eat the figs.

6. I've seen Claudius several times and read both book. My S.O. hadn't
ever seen it, so we had a Claudius weekend. King County Library System has it on DVD. It was wonderful. The BBC at its best. That's why I so interested in see it. The partnership between HBO and the BBC has got to be killer.

15. Aaacckk. I had an "I, Claudius" year.
My SO worked at a video store, and when it closed, he came home with the whole series on tape, which he played regularly for the next 12 months.

I'd be laying in bed, trying to sleep, and that damned theme would play.

8. eh, i'm thinking that the scenery i have seen so far has looked
realistic, but then again, it will probably prove to be just another "pretty boy" show where all the men are clean shaven and well groomed, and all the women looked like they just stepped out of the 20th century salon. hollywoodized.

no boils, no syphillis, no rickets and melanoma's.

9. Boobies every third ep -- just like "The Sopranos"
This will, of course, cause me to renew my subscription.

12. I'm surprised nobody mentioned the bikini loincloth yet
It's not exactly anachronistic - Greek women were documented wearing bikini bottoms during their own athletic competitions about 500 years before the birth of Christ.

14. I'd go with "Overly Attractive Gladiators" if it were a choice.
I have a feeling that gladiators didn't look like Calvin Klein models.
