Is anyone going to feel sorry for tourists who CHOSE to stay and party
in the French Quarter last night?

Gotta be honest with you, the only thing I feel for the hurricane partiers..the smart assed ones that wanted to hang out for the massive party...is pissed off that they are going to be whining and crying this time tomorrow about getting something to eat, and having a shower.

1. Alcohol and emergencies don't mix
but, yeah, I probably will feel sorry for the fools and even sorrier for emergency personnel harmed while trying to save their drunken asses.

4. Yeah, unfortunately, me too.
I was just looking at the Bourbocam last night...the SUV's driving down the street...the tourists with their cocktails...

and thought, "I wonder how many of those idiots CHOSE to stay.." ...thought..."oh, it can't get THAT bad..."

Well, you are right...I probably will feel sorry for them in the end, but right now, especially as a former paramedic, I just think they are jackasses.

Stephanie

And before anyone flames me..yes..I KNOW the damned flights were full leaving the airport. You can bet your sweet ass I would have paid a cabbie to haul Michael and I to another airport and left--or did whatever it took to get out.

6. Oh, I know. I feel for them, I really do
it's the smart asses I am having trouble with.

That guy quoted on the news who said the "only dangerous hurricanes were the ones he was drinking," or something to that effect.

Honestly, Progmom, I have been to New Orleans several times...have driven through there many more times...and when I think of the extremely impovershed down there right now, it just breaks my heart. Smart assed rich tourists are just making me mad.

10. i'm with you...
There are many NO residents with no options to get out of town...it's breaking my heart.

I've spent some time in NO in the past few years and fell in love with the city. Not the drunken frat boy part of it - I hate that. But the history, the beauty, the people, the music, and the food. Dammit. x( I have a good friend who is a jazz musician and lives in a beautiful home in the garden district. I hope he's ok.

11. I love New Orleans for the same reasons you do--
The people that live in those little wooden shotgun type houses that are a hundred years old under the underpasses of the city--

You know what else is bothering me? Don't laugh...all the little feral kitties...all the stray dogs...and the horses that pull the carts around the city.

Then I read the smart alecks comment, and I just wanted to reach through the moniter and bop him in the nose.

12. Oh yeah - definitely. I won't laugh about that at all.

I keep thinking about the fun times I had in New Orleans. A bunch of friends and I ended up at a Western-themed drag bar just off the Quarter - called "Le Round Up". Happy Hour started at 7am. It was a total blast.

Fried green tomatoes and Shrimp Uggie at Uglesich's. :( Amazing meals at Upperline and Brigsten's...

Maybe it won't be as bad as it's looking right now.

7. it's too late for some of the tourists...the ones who had flights
later in the week...the ones who were going to rent cars...etc...

The hotels are going to be full of tourists who now can't leave.

13. The police may bus them out, too...
They have the right to do that once an rmergency is declared.

8. I haven't heard this...
But you would think so...my dear BikeWriter! Seems logical, considering the size and strength of this monster storm...

15. It does appear to be a monster! One site I saw said it rated #4
in strength ever according to the barometric pressure of it now. :-(

16. I'll feel sorry for them too... especially when they sober up and realize
they can't get out. I think it's a very small percentage of the poor 100,000 that are stuck there though. If those partiers survive, they'll learn a huge lesson in the equalization they experience.
