Pardon my ignorance, but what is "Permalink" and how do |
|
you use it. I couldn't find it on FAQ's so I was wondering if someone could explain it to me. Thanks.

4. Oh. if you have a web page and you want to link to |
|
something, you dont want to link to a URL that changes with cookies, or time of day or whatever...
that way you can link directly to that particular content without having to make your surfers go to the home page and searh.

6. It's the difference between the link for DU's home page |
|
or any of the forum listings, and this discussion. One is "permanent," and the other will change frequently.

That slot used to say just "Link," and how it worked was that if you wanted to give a link for a reply in a thread instead of the thread itself, you would click Link and uh, magic fairies would give you the link. Or maybe it was ferrets, I don't remember. (I believe that what happened was the same thing that happens when you click on the hypertext for the reply under "Replies to this thread" and the URL for the reply would therefore be in your Address window, but my memory obviously is foggy. Now that you have a reply though, we can click on Permalink and see what happens.)
Edit: It is as I described above (in parentheses)
