Has anyone tried the Eharmony dating site? |

It seems very expensive. Worth it/not worth it?

1. I have a female relative, straight |
|
who had it, but met some people and did not have a lot of luck.
I know there is a site that costs less just for libs and progressives, I think it is called democraticsingles.com.

2. Tried it several years ago |
|
Didn't meet anyone interesting. Towards the end, I got tired of jumping through all the little hoops they make you jump through before directly corresponding with the person.

3. Tried it-it was a complete waste of time |
|
they matched me with REPUGS and a handful of liberals who wrote "must be considered VERY ATTRACTIVE by society's standards" at the top of their "must" list (and these guys were 50 pounds or more overweight who were demanding their own Angelina Jolie). Their system is a crock.

5. That's the thing I could never figure out, |
|
I tried some of the online services a few years ago just for the hell of it, and they kept matching me with repubs even though I SPECIFICALLY stated that I was a staunch liberal who was NOT AT ALL interested in staunch repubs. And you're right, too many of the men were demanding physical perfection when they themselves were no Mr. America. Not that, to me, looks and weight are that big of a deal, but it's just irritating when people who are far from perfect demand perfection themselves.

7. My guess is that they lump having an interest in politcs together |
|
regardless of one's R/L tendencies.
That would end up ebing miserable for all involved, I imagine.

6. It ain't worth it, trust me. |
|
I took their stupid "free profile" test a few years ago for the hell of it, and they had me totally wrong in their subsequent profile report. It fucking took FOREVER to take, too, over an hour. And it seems to me that you cannot make a "science" out of attraction and relationships the way they're trying to do. It just doesn't work that way.
And yes, it's a bit too fundie for my comfort. The site and its founder act as if the whole end-all and be-all of life is being in a relationship and then being married, and if you're not then there must be something wrong with you. That's bullshit on both counts.

8. My experience was similar |
|
I took the test, and they matched me with a bunch of outer suburbanites (from the solidly Republicanite and fundie areas) who were described in vague, imprecise terms: "Joe Blow is friendly and trustworthy and enjoys movies and dining out."
I never put down the money required to contact any of my "matches."
A man I know put down that he was interested in classical music and (liberal) religion, and he got matched with a bunch of contemporary Christian music fans, which was NOT what he had in mind at all.

9. Best friend is getting married in a month to someone he met through them |
|
Much as I'd love to run eHarmony down, much as I hate Neil Clark Warren, I have to admit that it has worked at least once. The parties in question aren't fundamentalist Christian conservatives, but middle-aged Jewish liberal hippies. On the other hand, on other threads here on this topic, folks have mentioned that the first response they got from eHarmony was that they didn't have any matches in their database for them. This happened to my friend as well, but he stuck it out and things worked out. Strikes me that it's much more likely that this happens to liberal hippies than say Christian suburbanite drones.

Everything worked out OK for me, though. Have you tried flirting with fellow DUers?
