Even if they are above ground, those huts will be destroyed. Has anyone thought about all the NOLA graves being destroyed and the possibility of alligators and snakes being in the streets along with caskets?

Or am I the only one with a mind that twisted? Seriously. :(

It's Mother Nature reminding us that we're not ever in control, contrary to what we try to pretend. People get hurt or killed, buildings get destroyed, terrible things happen - this is how it is. The mysterious beauty of our precious planet.

Hurricanes were here long before New Orleans, and, come to think of it, are probably God's way of telling Florida they're going to pay forever for the 2000 elections..................

There are so many things to cry about in this world. Try to see some of the beauty of this natural phenomenon, and keep in mind that people chose to live where these things happen. The tradeoff was worth it, in their estimation.

Don't cry. It'll be over, and probably not as bad as it seems right now.

I lived on Decatur, right across the street from the Morning Call... every morning (okay, it was more often noonish) I'd go for coffee & beignet, then take my guitar up to Jackson Square and jam with the locals... What's going to happen to the old musicians?

I remember my father talking about a flood many years ago where the people got up on the roofs of their houses. Some snakes got up there too!

Of course, the roofs of the houses in New Orleans may be covered with water in this hurricane.

a lot of burying in the area is done above ground in 'ovens', because the water table is too high.

A few years ago several cemetaries issued eviction notices to non-paying tenants because they needed the space for new customers.

They are FEMA D-MORT Teams, that stands for Disaster Mortuary Teams. They are teams of FEMA forensic scientists and undertakers who are responsible for the recovery and ID of remains that are disenterred during a disaster. It is a rather common event in any large flood. Unfortunatly it will be wide spread if the storm hits NO directly...

When I lived there, in the Quarter, back in the early 70s, I made the acquaintance of a voudon priest. The last spring I was there, Audubon Park was under 6 inches for several weeks. There was a distinct aroma of undeath in the air.

I can't help wondering just what else beSIDES gators and snakes might be washed up...

and I mean each gas tank at each gas station. CNN had an LSU professor on this morning talking about how these tanks coupled with the MASSIVE chemical plants and the household chemicals from each household could create "Toxic Gumbo" (of course the prof didn't sya that the talking heads started using that term).

During the day, these lights give way to clouds of smoke that rise from the giant mechanical structures that dot the area's landscape. The structures belong to 138 companies that comprise a virtually who's who of the petrochemical industry: Texaco, Borden, Occidental Chemical, Kaiser Aluminum, Chevron, IMC-Agrico, Dow, Dupont to name a few.
