This is going to be devastating.
I cannot wrap my head around the unfolding tragedy that we will witness this time tomorrow. I love that city and I have so many wonderful memories of it. I fear that they will remain that after this hits.

I am not a Christian, but this is a time to pray, meditate, visualize, and think thoughts for this great city and the people who remain there. God help them all.

2. Hope for the best
maybe something will happen (hurricane will weaken, veer off on another course etc) that will mitigate this thing....I'm hoping and lighting candles anyway..

3. It's going to be a tough one to watch...
It's hard for me to visualize as well what this storm is like and what kind of damage it is going to cause. I'm afraid New Orleans is going to be gone come this time tomorrow.

4. do you really think it will be that bad?
I hope I don't sound insensitive, but I haven't been watching the news and I'm not sure how bad it's looking - I just heard that many people were leaving New Orleans.

I will send every positive vibe I have your way!

6. I am so sorry
and to think I've been bitching about the heat here in California. New Orleans will be in my thoughts tonight. What a great, historic city. It will survive. I am sure of it.

10. This is the worst, very worst everything.
The mayor said this is what they've always feared would happen.

Category 5 (the strongest), headed right for a city that is already below sea level, stuck between a huge lake and the Mississippi River.

7. An unfortunately they have sown the seeds of their own
demise by allowing the destruction of the Delta islands, which historically have helped soak up some of the energy of Gulf hurricanes; this destruction caused by the ceasless channeling of the Mississippi so it no longer silts out in the Delta...the water instead run down through the Atchafalaya and the silt carried far offshore, thrown over the cliff into the deep Gulf.

Awlins is, despite its trash and crime, a charming and beguiling city. But it's in a place where no city should be.

You know, don't you, they they run the pumps down there without cease, every day and night, even when there are no storms, just to keep the Gulf from reclaiming its own.

The city has been on borrowed time for two decades now. And though I know it's many people's home, perhaps after this, it might be a good time for the people of Louisiana to pause and reflect if there really should be a city in such a precarious place after all.

Sic transit gloria mundi, and all that.

You don't have to be religious to pray for those poor folks down there tonight, especially the genuinely poor ones jammed into the Superdome when the electricity goes out.

I'm not religious, so I'm going to pray to all the various and sundry Gods of several religions, just in case I can catch the ear of the one or ones who are for real.

Godspeed the people of New Orleans this night.

11. I know. I keep seeping tears.
This is truly awful. You don't know what to do. All you can do is pray in your own way and cry.
