If I take the codeine, my shoulder will feel better (for a while) |
|
but then again, I'll be tired and maybe even nauseous.
I don't like my options.

my pcp said to keep it moving, but to avoid lifting of any kind. She gave me some exercises to do, and gave me the pain meds, and said to call back in a couple of weeks if there isn't any improvement.
Bursitis.

I had two frozen shoulders, not sure, but I think I had tendonitis and then it developed into frozen shoulder. My sister now has frozen shoulder, hers started with a tear in her rotary cuff. She got a cortizone shot and has been going to PT, so she's kept her mobility and will probably be able to avoid surgery.
I have vicodine left over from my knee surgery and it's very tempting to take it at night. I may give tylenol PM a try.

5. not frozen shoulder yet |
|
that's why she wants me to keep moving it.
I am using a lot of ice to keep the swelling down.

Alternate heat and ice. 15 minutes ice, take a break, 15 minutes heat. You can use plastic or styrofoam cups filled with water and put a spoon in it. Make an ice popsicle to rub down your shoulder.

I know ibuprofen would make life a lot easier right about now.

3. Also you might not like the technicolor dreams |
|
They gave me codeine (Synalgos, as I recall) when I had my wisdom teeth out lo those many years ago. One technicolor nightmare later, I decided that the pain wasn't that bad and I could manage with aspirin. Unfortunately that probably isn't an option with a shoulder injury, but there a lot more effective painkillers available over the counter now than there were in 1981. Good luck regardless!

8. What kind of an injury is it? |
|
You should consider trying acupuncture. It's very effective for some kinds of pain -- I have had great luck with repetitive stress injuries, back and neck problems from car crash, etc.

I can't recall any specific activity that has triggered it. I work out 5 to 7 days every week.... nothing new, no added weight....
can't put my finger on it

11. I had that in my hip ... |
|
I'm over it now ... here is how I handled it ... keep on moving to avoid a fluid build-up in the bursar ... but move cautiously ... I didn't take pain killers except for the ones that also reduced swelling.
think ... about walking with bursitis
