Both newbies and veteran posters are welcome to introduce or re-introduce themselves. We haven't had a topic like this in a while.

My name is Matt, and I've been a member of DU since 2001. I have also been a moderator for multiple terms and hope to be again in the future. I am 29 years old, and live in southeastern PA (Philly suburbs.) I have a mixed-breed dog named Reba, who is 9 and still in very good health except for arthritis. Looking into home businesses, but have family money to work with also. I am a spiritual person, but not church-going. I have no siblings. I love music (most kinds,) computers, reading (Harry Potter, John Grisham, Lisa Scottoline, and political books,) writing, Young And The Restless, The Simpsons, following the weather, and dogs in general. I'm quite liberal - here's how I'd place myself on the 1-10 scale, with 10 being most liberal:

Spending: 9.5 (spend much more on helpful programs, but there's too much pork)
Abortion: 9.5
Health care: 10+
Death penalty: 10
War and peace: 10

but I do go through streaks where I post a lot and then not for a couple weeks because my life gets busy.

I have a ten year old dog and two 6 month old kittens. Our 16 year old cat died on Friday. :cry:

I am a long time lurker (since before primaries) and don't post much now that I'm registered. I can't give a detailed list as you have done, but here is what is most important to me now:

I believe in the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights

I believe the People are sovereign. (I am a populist, more than progressive or liberal)

I believe in the separation of church and state

I believe in the separation of powers

I believe in the rule of law and habeas corpus

I am anti-fascist.... (including the 'kinder, gentler' fascism encouraged by some so-called democrats)

Strangely, those beliefs have often made me a "traitor" according to reps and "too radical" according to dems so I suppose I am technically an Independent.

That is me in a nutshell. :D

You probably mostly know me. I'm pretty liberal too, but i diverge from some narrow elements of liberal "orthodoxy". (Just for lack of a better term.)

I'll be 49 in a few weeks. I have a job in industry as a consultant, but teach economics and statistical mechanics at the grad school level. Married for almost 26 years to a recently retired special ed teacher. I'm a piano player and guitarist and nuts about that, my wife, my dog, my kitties and golf. Own our own home.
