1. Maddy lives north of Covington, in Mississippi.
From what I saw, she was west of most of the hurricane, and a bit inland. I could be wrong, though.

I'm still trying to get in touch with my parents. Might be a day or two, though.

3. Hope everything is going well with your parents...
It does look like it'll be a while before everything's going again.

2. From what I've seen if they're not in an Internet cafe in Nashville
we won't be hearing from them for a bit. The coast was hammered HARD. They really got the brunt of it, for all the focus on N'wawlins. That was really about the media being pre-deployed for the NOLA event.

Local reports from police and fire report "total devestation" and a reference to "Camille 2".

It don't sound good there at all.

Hope everybody in the path of it is Safe Home soon.

I owe a big thanks for Maddy McCall for posting that hurricane track map Friday afternoon. It helped get my family and friends on the move before the NHC called it.

MaddyMcCall went to stay with her folks who own a brick home..I have not been able to reach her but I have her home phone so that doesn't alarm me.
Trof and his wife had some trees uprooted and their dock is underwater but their home is OK and so far they have power.

Storm Hampers Long-Distance, Cell Services

By ANICK JESDANUN
The Associated Press
Monday, August 29, 2005; 7:12 PM

-- Cell phone service was spotty and long-distance callers met busy signals on Monday as Hurricane Katrina knocked out key telecommunications hubs along the Gulf Coast.

Most long-distance and cellular providers reported trouble, while the dominant local phone provider for the hurricane zone, BellSouth Corp., did not immediately quantify the extent of storm-related service disruptions.

6. I'm not very familiar with
the geography of Mississippi, but I'm chatting online with a friend in Oxford. Their phones, internet, electricity, and water are perfectly fine. She's comparing the weather to a fairly intense and long-lasting thunderstorm.
