Please Remember Lost Pets After Katrina
DU'ers:

While the Red Cross and other organizations will need donations to give to survivors of disasters, please keep in mind that pets are often abandoned because a shelter will not allow them, or they are inadvertently left behind.

There are humane societies in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisana, but at the moment their servers are down. Thus, the Human Society has set up a disaster fund relief to rescue pets and other animals.

LAST UPDATED: Monday, August 29, 2005; 12:18 p.m.

Hurricane Katrina has slammed into the Gulf Coast and The HSUS is gearing up for a massive response to rescue animals and assist their caregivers in the disaster areas. Our highly trained Disaster Animal Response Teams are standing by, waiting to learn where we are needed most. Our Disaster Response Unit, as well as other rescue vehicles affiliated with our disaster relief teams, are stocked and ready.

Our entire relief effort is funded by donations from people like you, and we desperately need your support. Please make an emergency contribution to our Disaster Relief Fund today! To donate, please complete the information on our secure online form below. Your tax-deductible gift will be used exclusively for our disaster animal relief work.

To send your gift by U.S. Mail, please make your check payable to HSUS Disaster Relief Fund and mail it to HSUS, Dept. Katrina-DRFHBM, 2100 L Street, NW, Washington, DC 20037. Thank you!

You can also donate online (secure server, non-Pay Pal)

1. There are thousands of cats in N.O.
You see them everywhere. One even climbed up my back stairs years ago and stayed around to deliver a litter of kitties! I can't imagine what became of most of them. :(

2. benny05
I just donated to HSUS and sent a donation form to a friend of mine. I donated through HSUS for the Florida hurricans and 9-11. I always thank the people who volunteer to go to disaster areas and help the animlas ---- wish I could join them. I guess the next best thing is donating dollars to help. Thanks for the information and reminding me about HSUS. Ever since GWB became the pResident I no longer watch the national news and, consequently, have seen no pictures or anything about Katrina except what I read from the DUers who do watch the news and all I can say is thanks for all of you.

3. I donated to HSUS
Last year as well for them to rescue pets and animals in Florida during the hurricane season last year.

Thank you for reading my post and may the Humane Society's work may be performed well to save many animals' lives.
