What the hell is a "Gipper"? |
|
I never knew the meaning of Gipper and why they called the senile Raygun The Gipper.
Anyone know what it means besides senility or stupidity.

Dried, smelly old fish that's stuffed with aging limburger.
Strangely enough, that fits Reagan too. :D

Notre Dame football player from the olden days. Reagan starred in a movie about him, Knute Rockne, All American. Gip is dying or something and he urges his teamates on saying 'Win just one more for the Gipper'.

4. George Gipp played football at Notre Dame |

And Ronnie played him in a b movie. See so therefore they call him the "Gipper" (Gipp's nickname) because "sleeps with a monkey" didn't seem to fit (Bedtime for Bonzo).

the Notre Dame football team. His character dies of a disease, and just before he does, he askes Rockne to tell the boys to 'win one for "The Gipper"'. Totally tearjerking material, but in St. Ronnie's hands, total horseshit. Oh well.

She's busting her "chops" or "she really earned her chops on that one." What, exactly are chops?

Chops has to do with keeping in shape, musically. Horn players have to maintain the way they hold their lips together, it's called an "embouchure" (sp?). The word is short for "choppers" - meaning teeth, or mouth.
Guitarists and other musicians have to maintain their fingering skills with regular practice.
