"Mr. Responsible" forgot to pay his phone bill again |
|
I called to talk to the kids and got this weird recorded message telling me that the number was "suspended at the customer's request." So I started calling around until I got his girlfriend's cell phone number. "Oh, I guess he forgot to pay the stupid bill," she said, giggling a little, "Things go to hell when I'm not in charge."
"Yes, I know the routine," I said, thinking of all the times he'd "forgotten" various bills over the years: the lights turned off, phone shut off, garbage uncollected. How can someone who makes $70K a year always be so broke?

1. Drugs and alcohol can play key roles |
|
in those people's "lifestyle"
OR, they could be the type who just frivoluosly piss away their money and realize they're broke when the bills come due.
I work with people who probably spend $150 mo. on lunch!

3. Mr Beastman is good at that |
|
The only answer I could get out of him that kinda made sense is that he doesn't like to pay bills until the last minute because he likes just having the money to see in his account :eyes:
Me being just the opposite, I like not looking at a stack of bills. So, it sort of like seeing the glass half-empty or half-full.
To solve this problem, I'm in charge of the bills.

It's worked out so far and I don't mind. I'm a worry wart, and otherwise, I would always be nagging about it.

He is very frugal and a great bargain hunter. We try to outdo each other on who can find the best buy and hardly ever buy anything that's not on sale.

We just have different philosophies. And since I'm the one to freak out about bills being paid, I'm in charge

I actually found something we don't have in common! :D
I hate paying bills, and reprehensor told me he'd take that over when he moved down, because he knows I am awful at letting stuff pile up. Not intentionally, I just "always have more important things to do!"
He's very organized, and knows what he's doing, so he keeps us on the straight and narrow billwise. Just paid off a bunch of cards!

... and being homeless, or cold, or in the dark, or out of contact, so I pay my bills as soon as the money arrives, then if there's anything left in the account  I might splurge on a bag of Parmesan & Garlic potato chips.
Yeah, not much of a splurge, but at least the damn bill collectors and process servers don't need to come buggin' me! :tinfoilhat:
The disadvantage to living in a community property state (which this is) is that you can be permafucked by an irresponsible mate, long after the stench has faded from the upholstery! :grr:
(Been there, done that, burnt the t-shirt 'cause it rubbed the scabs off the scars.)
Tuck, hon, get your new life rockin' so you can rescue the munchkins from Dogpatch South! (you KNOW the Rose and I will help!) We'll keep the candles burnin' and the mojo churnin'!! :loveya:

8. My first husband was like that |
|
He would "forget" to pay a bill, or get his oil changed, or get to an appointment. I had to wake him up in the morning to go to work (even though I didn't have to get up that early). I had to remind him of everything, double check on things he was supposed to do. Eventually, I realized that having him was like having another kid and I had enough kids. So I got rid of one.
He's now married to a woman who likes the role of momma. She takes care of him and they're very happy together. All power to them - I prefer a partner to a responsibility.
