I got the "pay-pal" scam e-mail- text of e-mail below.
I don't have a pay-pal account so I knew right away it was a scam. I went to the fake pay-pal site they had set up and it looked legit- they direct you to account verification regardless of what password you provide. They then get your credit card info and checking account info-along with your mothers madien name and your social security #.

5. The link in the scam uses the same words the poster shows here
but if you hover over the link in the email, it goes somewhere else.

Hovering here gets you the correct URL because of the way DU handles copy and paste.

8. The link is provided by the scammer-it is the fake site.
It is a carbon copy of the real pay-pal site.

9. The *Link* is not really a link.

In the bogus E-Mail if you click it, it starts a Javascript that will do any number of things the script creator designed it to do. At the very least it will send you to their website. It may also do many other things like copy your address book, set a trojan, or copy your password file. Don't screw around with it. Delete it.

3. Also
you can send both paypal and ebay emails directly to their legal arm by address either to spoof@ebay.com and spoof@paypal.com I get about three a day of this crap and always forward it on. Considering it's a felony, it will be good to eventually prosecute people.

4. I got that one too
I went directly to PayPal (without using their link) and merely verified that they had my contact information correct. I added no new information to my account.

12. I had my zonealarm settings set to low when I got it.
If I set it to medium I never get any spam or scams.

14. To help find and stop the scammers
who send these emails to steal people's IDs, you can forward the email to spoof@paypal.com, and the same if you get one for ebay--spoof@ebay.com.

When someone gets nailed for attempting to steal persoanl credit info, it's one more person who can't steal from you, your family or your friends.

These types of emails are about identity theft. Hope you all are into helping stop them. :hi:
