Dealer Wants To Sell Romanian-Built SUV's In California

PALMDALE, Calif. -- Are Southern Californians ready for an SUV from Count Dracula's home turf?

Auto dealer Mike Taheri hopes so.

He's building a dealership for the Cross Lander 4x4 at an auto mall in the Palmdale area.

The Cross Lander is a no-frills SUV based on a military vehicle that Romania used to make for the Soviet bloc.

It looks a little like a vintage Land Rover and is expected to sell for $20,000 to $25,000.

Sales in the U.S. are still pending government approval. Taheri hopes to have his dealership open by December 2006.
