Poll question: How much additional damage will Bush cause in the wake of Katrina?
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 01:59 PM by Richardo
True story from 1994:

It's October in southeast Texas and the race for Governor is heading into the final lap...

Candidate George Bush is running neck and neck with popular, yet Democratic, incumbent Ann Richards. It's the year of the Gingrich-led Republican revolution and President Clinton is apparently in for a very bad midterm.

The Houston area has a major storm: no wind to speak of, but a hurricane's worth of rain falls over a three-day period. In the northwestern quadrant of the city, a certain neighborhood is flooded. Thankfully the house owned by yours truly is on one of the highest lots in the subdivision; probably 3' higher than the rest of the lots.

On day four, we hear the unmistakable irritating buzz of an airboat. Who is coming to survey the damage and demonstrate how much he cares for us poor unfortunates? Golly, it's that nice folksy homespun Republican candidate Bush...and a camera crew.

In the course of his short airboat tour, during which time he never actually stopped the boat to meet any of us, his boat knocked over one house's water tank and clipped another's wellhead. (Not ours in either case)

Thanks for nothin', goofball..
