How is Gulfport, BTW, is it as bad as the news reports say?
My husband's best friend is moving from New Mexico to Central Florida next week - and sees nothing wrong with taking I-10 east of the Mississippi because "it will be a week after the hurricane, so everything should be okay."
I think he is crazy.
Am I wrong?

Gulfport is in shambles.
Your friend should stay the hell away from the Gulf Coast.

Even if I-10 is open by then (I understand it is closed from Louisiana through Alabama it would be the height of insensitivity for him to just come driving through going about his business.
Do you know if I-20 is okay through Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama? I think I can still persuade him to do that, but I doubt he would go further north.

4. I don't know about the whole length |

I imagine I-20 is fine. My relatives in Mississippi say it's good. Some of them have temporarily relocated in Jackson.

I thought I saw long streches to the east of LA that were just the pilings with very few road sections.... I don't think it will be open for a long time.I doubt he'll have much choice but to go the northern route.
