Sounds like price gouging to me. Same thing in my area, we're over 3$ a gallon now.
Can't expect the big oil companies to sacrifice their profit margins, now can we??

Freeways empty. I feel for those who have to drive, but I don't. And it's kind of nice.

i am also glad that we moved last year - we're much closer to our offices than we used to be. just a 5-7 minute drive now.

6. Mean while, in NO, they shoot looters taking stuff that is gonna be under |
|
water soon anyway, diverting manpower from saving people to saving stuff in stores which will never reopen.
::sigh::
By the way, the harvesters told farmers where I live that they will not be back next year to combine wheat. Diesel is too expensive to make it possible to harvest food. And that was what they said LAST week!
If you have a freezer, fill it. If you have land or even a flowerpot, plant food crops.

Made sure that everyone went and topped off their tanks the day before the hurricane made landfall, because I knew the oil companies would seize the opportunity to hike up the prices. We're using the gas as sparingly as is possible now.

But getting so much closer, moving to a nice farmhouse on Scio Church Rd.
Save myself 70 miles a day, can't wait. I will be able to go more than 5 weeks between oil changes, too!

Just for some perspective.
People laugh in my face when I mention that people here are nervous over $3 gas prices.

14. Sucks to be them, but |
|
at least they have some decent public transportation, as to not rely on autos so much.
We, however, do not.

15. some of our cities do too |
|
and having lived in london for 1/3 of my life... yes London's system is much better... but many, MANY drive their too. We have pretty decent metro systems here too... but our inter-city trains are not up to snuff IMHO.

17. The only place I have lived |
|
where I was able to utilize the transport system was Washington state.
My commute entailed jumping on a bus on Whidbey Island, getting on the ferry to Mukilteo, and then getting on a nice bus with reclining seats to go to Seattle.
Took 2.5 hours each way, but I caught up on my sleep along the way.
Now, I'll be training the horses to pull a wagon, I may need them to.
