My employer won't transfer me |
|
So today things just hit another snag. I went to the store where I worked and asked for a transfer to another store in the DC area. They said that I had to be there 6 months and they wouldn't do it. I explained how I feared for my life and they wouldn't do it still. I then quit because I am leaving FL really soon.
The HR director was rude to me and treated me very poorly. I will send a nasty letter to her boss and to the company's HQ in NYC.

1. What store do you work for? |
|
Are you new to FL?
I'm not sure what the whole story is here. Weren't you attacked some weeks ago in front of your house?
Do you think there is a connection?

2. I don't want to mention it in public |

It is a big chain and here is the clue.
It's located in Manhattan and has been visited by the Queen of England and Jackie Kennedy.
Otherwise I doubt I'll ever work there again because of what happened.

3. You'll send a nasty letter to her boss??? |
|
On what grounds, because she followed company policy? Transfers are difficult to get in this economy, even if you've been working at a place for more than the required period. And did you leave without giving proper two weeks' notice? If that's the case, then no wonder she was less than pleased.
Careful about burning bridges, Carlos. If you ever want to work for that company again, you might want to keep your "nasty letters" to yourself for now.

I have to stay in Hotels and I am not safe. I showed the police reports to her.
It's how she talked to me. She said it in a very rude tone to me.
What was I supposed to do? I can't believe that you are defending her.
I really can't

5. He can't possibly know the whole story. |

Just get out of Florida and write the letter later. Maybe they will reconsider later, but I'm glad you are firm about getting out of there. :hi:

I had a gun pointed on me. I then had all my belongings stolen.

6. Well, perhaps that's part of the problem. |
|
Even though you've had upheaval in your life--for which we're all sympathetic--you still have an obligation to be as professional as the situation permits.
Frankly, Carlos, you can't expect an HR person to be thrilled if you give less than two weeks' notice, EVEN IF there are extenuating circumstances.

8. In retail people come and go all the time |

I quit because I had to leave Florida. This person has my information and a set of keys to my car.
You have to realize how it feels when you have no place to go and have to call hotels your home.

9. You're assuming I DON'T know how that feels, Carlos. |
|
Actually, I do.
And all I can say is: don't let it turn you into a chronic victim (something I fear you're already doing), and notice that the sun does still come up every day. Things may suck, and may suck on a profoundly huge level, but you can't let that experience come to define who you are as a person, and you really, really shouldn't let it dictate every facet of your life from here on out.
Make the changes you need to make to get out of Florida--and understand that doing things like leaving a job without adequate notice are still going to reflect badly on you, even though there are reasonable explanations for your departure. That's a price you pay that's beyond your control, and you simply have to accept it (and it doesn't mean somebody's being nasty or rude or unfair). Do it, and get on with your life. Wallowing in pity and fear is one of the most destructive things a person can do.
