I just got a lift from a guy with swastika tattoos
I got into the truck yard at the end of my shift tonight to find that my pick up truck had a flat tire. I bought the truck used in February and I didn't think to see if all of the tire changing tools were there. It turns out that they were not. So I called a towing company to tow me home. I'll be able to fix it myself from here.

The guy who showed up to give me a tow was one scary looking dude. He had his head shaved bald and he was blind in one eye and had one of those pirate style black patches over it. But what really made him scary was that he had a swastika tattoo on his right hand with the words "white power" tattooed above and below it. He also had a swastika tattoo on his neck. He probably had other white pride tattoos as well, but those were just the ones that I could see. He did have a large tattoo of something on his forearm that I couldn't make out due to poor quality work and age.

Our truck terminal is located in a black neighborhood and soon after he got me hooked up and on our way he started in with the racial slurs assuming that I shared his views of black people. He also had a hand gun and talked about using it on some thieves one time. When someone says racist things I'm usually quick to say that I do not share their views. But I wasn't going to say anything to this guy. I just sat there in silence until he started talking about a different subject.

The guy couldn't drive worth a shit. It made me wonder if he was drunk or high. He hooked up my truck fine and didn't seem to be talking like he was on something, but we were on a street with a 40 mph speed limit and the guy was doing 20. It usually takes me 15 minutes to get home from work. This guy took a half an hour. He also had trouble keeping the truck in his lane.

I was glad to get home tonight and to get away from that guy. Serious bad vibes.

7. Thank you
I guess it's sort of a story from the road.

8. I think his work didn't mind the gun
He shot at the thieves while he was at work. I think my state also has concealed carry now. Now that drug and alcohol thing is a no no.

15. Oh
I mean, I'm pro-gun-ownership, but I'm the type that thinks you should keep your mouth shut about carrying one when you do...

6. Great idea for the beginning of a horror story
Except that in the horror story you'd probably not make it home.

If you make any money off of it, though, I'll want a cut.

12. It makes me wonder why there haven't been more tow truck driver horror
stories.

It's a situation with so many scary possibilities where one would have no control.

14. I guess the tow truck driver
has been pretty much ignored by the entertrainment media. The only thing I can think of is a commercial some time back that was humorous that involved a tow truck driver.

If you drive a truck for a living you are going to encounter tow truck drivers every once in a while. I've only had a problem with one before tonight. After an accident that my co-driver got into in the middle of winter in Wyoming the tow truck driver made us ride in the damaged truck as he towed it. It was a cab over truck and there was a big gaping hole in the front of it. It was probably about 2 degrees below zero as well. That guy was an asshole.

It's been a while since I saw it.

13. Hoo boy, my dear Droopy....
I'm shivering, and it's not because my sliding glass door is open...This is some scary shit...

You describe him so well..I felt as though I were sitting in the truck with the two of you...

I was awfully glad I wasn't sitting there...

Please take care of yourself...And thanks for posting your story...

16. You're right not to want to be around that guy
I think racism ought to be classified a mental illness. That guy would probably be on disability if it were.

18. Umm..yeah..
I wouldn't be suprised to hear that he is incarcerated for something soon. Your instinct is the best forecaster for these kind of things.

19. Maybe so, maybe no
He said that he had worked at the company for 6 years and he asked me about CDL schooling and certification because he wanted to drive dump trucks. Hard to say the guy's age. He looked to be around 50 but he sounded younger than me and I'm 32.

I'd say that it is probably a good bet that he got those tattoos in jail, though. Maybe he learned his lesson at least as far as abiding by the law goes.

20. A Skinhead
x(

That particular breed really frightens me--they have a whacked world view and can be particularly vicious. You were wise to keep quiet about your disagreement with his attitudes, particularly considering he had a gun on hand.

I'm glad you got through your experience unscathed. :pals:

21. Thanks, Buffy
I've met racists in my time. I actually grew up with a guy who turned out to be racist, but he doesn't scare me. I still talk to him and I've got him trained to the point that he won't use racial slurs around me. But anybody who tattoos a damn swastika on their body really needs to get their head checked. That's some serious hatred and such a person is not safe to be around.

22. Skinheads are serious racists
They eat, drink and breathe racism. It is their way of life--basically their career. If they can make a living at it somehow they will, but if not they will work their job and everything outside of it is devoted to promoting their "cause".

American History X is an amazing movie that portrays just how insidious the Skinheads are. It centers on a teenage Skinhead (Edward Furlong) who was brought into the movement by his older brother (Edward Norton). If you haven't seen the movie I highly recommend you do; it's eye-opening and thought provoking.

Or maybe those are faux-skinheads.

23. I usually get upset when I hear people don't admonish others for
bigotry...In this case, that was the absolute BEST thing to do. That was NOT the kind of guy you get into a discussion with on such a topic, especially given that you needed a ride from him.

I'm just really sorry that you had to be in his company for any length of time.

I hope that you are ok...

:hi:

26. What I don't understand is,
how did he get a licence to drive a tow-truck if he has only one eye? Doesn't this violate some state law? Just how lax are the regulations there?

guy but he had a shaved a Swastika tattoo with 666 under it.
