I Donated Blood Yesterday |
|
Just doing my part. Hope it will help someone.
My heart goes out to everyone in The Gulf. I thought our predicament last year in South Florida was bad, but I could not imagine this happening.

I used to be a regular blood donor, but probably haven't donated in nearly a year. I'll have to find my local blood bank (I recently relocated) and get back in the habit.

And, THANK YOU! Please take care of yourself today...lots of yummy meals and fluids...and take it easy with your donor arm...We don't want you to get a bruise....
If FIVE PERCENT of the eligible donors would get off their duffs and go donate, there would never be any blood shortage ever......
Thank you once again....

3. Will push my S.O. to do so as well |
|
He has the rarest blood type (I forget what kind) so they call our house weekly as soon as his time limit is up.
He refers to the Red Cross as "thpse G.D. F@#king Vampires called again", but still donates at least 4 times a year.
I'm severely anemic b/c of fibroids, but as soon as I have surgery and the numbers get back up, I'll go back to donating.
Thanks for the reminder.

4. He is probably type AB negative...this is the rarest... |
|
Please tell him thank you from all the people who need blood every freakin day of the year...
It means a great deal to them...and to their loved ones...
I also greatly appreciate your sentiments...please do take care of yourself...and not just so you can come back to donating again...

that is what I called the pretty women who came every morning to take my blood at the hospital. I kept thinking, they say a pint of blood can save three lives, and here you are taking a pint of my blood and not saving any lives with it!
I thought I was probably too anemic to donate, but I passed the test the one time I tried.

9. Keep your chin up, and keep teasing the "vampires" |
|
Hope everything looks up for you.
Actually, have to thank the Red Cross because they were the ones that gave me the heads up that I was anemic - I hadn't suspected it until they turned me away and wouldn't allow me to give blood.

12. When people who are hospitalized get their blood drawn every AM, |
|
the lab people try to do so in the smallest amounts possible, so as to minimize the blood loss of the patient...
And they were saving the life of one person...you...

I used to donate, but haven't for years. I'm afraid to try again because they have a hard enough time finding a vein just for blood draws to do labs. I've even had to have blood drawn from my hand because they couldn't find a vein in my arms. I always joke (macabrely) that if I ever have to have chemo I'll be in huge trouble.
Thank you for donating.

6. Got to wait another week before i can give again |
|
What sucks is that they did a bad stick last time and didn't get a full pint out of me, which means it can't be used. They still make you wait 6 weeks though

13. That's always tough when they can't get the vein.... |
|
One thing that you can do is to make sure you've had lots of water and other things to drink before you donate..in the 24 hours before donating.
The increased water does help to plump up the veins...
BTDT....good luck!
