I am getting nothing done
kid is back to school and I have that weird "got up too early" feeling. It is kinda too quiet around here and I don't feel like doing any work, although there is certainly plenty to do. Ironically, 2 weeks ago I couldn't wait for school to start!

So I guess it's time to put on the loud music! Now is the time where we dance! :)

1. your kid must start school early
Mine has until next week. We just finished the haircut and sneakers run. Just have the school supplies run left ...

2. some schools here started last week!
I would have preferred they wait til after Labor Day, but... I don't make the schedule. :)

I have also heard of some schools that started in mid-August. How that makes sense is beyond me!

9. The reason we are given
is that since we are on the block schedule (similar to the semester system) we are able to complete an entire class prior to the winter holidays. When we return to school in January we begin a new semester. In the past we began in late August and for two weeks in January we had the same students again. Seniors were a particular problem, especially if they knew they were going to exempt the exam ("senioritis" as we call it). They knew how many times they could skip a class or be sent out before they lost their exemption for the final exam and they would take it to the limit before they stopped. However, this problem still exists regardless of the schedule.

Our summer vacation begins around 25 May and the students return in early August. The teachers return on 1 August.

When I was in school, the first day for students was the first Monday after Labor Day and ended in late May. Evidently, with the substandard performance of SC public schools some politician or bureaucrat decided that more time in the classroom would improve performance; it really has not.

In SC the teachers work 190 days of which we teach 180 days.

The only other explanation I can think of is that there are many holidays during the school year and this extends the yearly school calendar.

4. exactly!
that is what I was thinking! Hey, how are ya? Kids back in school yet?

I just gave up and took a nap. I think I'm logy from getting up so early. ( I really slack off in the summer when there is no school). Plus I don't want the summer to be over!

7. yeah I've been a bit like that too
I usually chalk it up to perimenopause, the endless journey. ;)

Cripe Aug. 16th!, next thing you know the kids will be back in school in late July! Why so early? Someone told me they would start passing laws that said kids can't go back before Labor Day.
