New Orleans, in her party clothes. (pic heavy)
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 11:59 AM by SOteric
I'm not in denial, I'm just not ready to eulogise the City of New Orleans. I believe, with all my heart, she's coming back to us. It breaks my heart to see all those photos of her muddied and broken.

I hope these links work. I just took a Google tour of the city that I spent so much illicit time in during grad school. I wanted to see the beautiful New Orleans I remember. And I wanted to share her with you.

13. Thank You....
...I appreciate it...we're hangin' in here tryin' to take care of the refugees up my way...some folks are already enrolling their children in our schools and we're attempting to figure out some sort of permanent tent cities or housing in the interim. :(

7. Thank you SOteric
I have very fond memories from my time spent there. I wrote some good tunes sitting on my friend's front porch breathing in that delta air.

14. Thanks for some beautiful images.
New Orleans is as much a mood as a place. I say rebuild it. European cities destroyed in World War II have recreated themselves. It can be done in New Orleans...as hopeless as that appears right now.

I guess NO and Quebec are really the only European-style cities in North America.

I hope some day to see New Orleands and Quebec.

edit: Thanks for the pics SOteric.

16. My only time spent in NO
was through watching Real World New Orleans.

Wonder how that house fared? Can anyone show an aerial image pointing out where that house was located?

18. My friend and I made plans to visit London ...
several months ago. It was kind of a random choice ... we went to see a play (had the play been staged in say Dublin, we'd have gone there instead). Weeks before our trip, the terrorist attacks occurred. We still went, of course and had a good time. While in London, we threw out some ideas for a short trip in October. As I have never been, we decided on New Orleans. I don't know why, really, we've never talked about it before ... it just came up and sounded great.

I'm not actually saying anything here (this should not be taken in anyway as a pity post) ... just that the coincidence in my recent choices are odd and it adds a melancholy personal element to the range of emotions I feel about this situation (helplessness, concern, anger (outrage), frustration, sadness). While trivial in the grand scheme, it just struck me that I may never see NO like this.

My thoughts are with those touched by this event ... please forgive my transgression.
