Crescent City by Lucinda Williams
Everybody's had a few
now they're talking about who knows who
I'm going back to the Crescent City,
where everything's still the same

This town has said what it has to say
now I'm after that back highway
And the longest bridge I've ever crossed over Pontchartrain

Tous les bon son temps, that's all we'd say
We used to dance the night away
Me and my sister, me and my brother
We used to walk down by the river

Mama lives in Mandeville
I can hardly wait until
I can hear my Zydeco and "laissez les bons temps rouler"

And take rides in open cars
my brother knows where the best bars are
Let's see how these blues'll do in the town where the good times stay

Tous les bon sont temps, that's all we'd say
We used to dance the night away
Me and my sister, me and my brother
We used to walk down by the river

1. You gotta hear Emmylou Harris sing it.
It's on her "Prayer for the cowgirl" CD. (Beatiful CD, BTW).

Everytime I hear them talk about Lake Pontchartrain this song starts in my head.

I've driven over that bridge.

4. Me, too. I hear it every time.
Did the Causeway survive? I heard the mayor saying that they had flown over part of it and it was still there.

2. Lucinda's songs are full of Louisia references - SLidell, Lake
Charles, etc.

I'm hearing them a little differently now. Isn't she from there?

5. She's from Lake Charles
Her father is a published poet - taught at the University of Arkansas - and read a poem he wrote at Clinton's 1997 inaugural.
