Well, except why they were deleted - cause that will get your post deleted too. :-)
Never had a post deleted before and now I've had 2 in one day (so far). Go Me!!!

1. how did it make you feel? |

Were you sad, angry, spiteful, remorseful, giddy, horny, nauseated, cheerful, gleeful, shy, delirious, stoic?
The world wants to know.

actually it depends on which time. The first one I knew was gonna get deleted and I was actually kinda excited about that first time.
The second one I was just confused. The thread it was on was truly offensive and I dind't think what I said was that bad.

7. what is a free speech zone |
|
i took the deletion more heavily than you, and have not posted for several weeks.... the rules are wrong, i don't agree with any first amendment zones, nor censorship that cannot be questioned.
That begs the question, that as you accept the censorship, what is your feeling about free speech? Are you a fan of the "new rules"... how does it feel to be violated as such?

that the whole United State was a free speech zone but apparently I was wrong.
I am not really a fan of the new rules though I did appreciate Skinner for taking a suggestion/comment I made to heart and making changes. I understand the need for the rules - without them GD was a madhouse. I just don't always understand the way they get applied. I think the mods can be a little trigger happy.

15. this is a private forum and Skinner and whoever owns this |
|
has a First Amendment right to delete any posts he thinks are out of line. Granted people support the site by donating but it's still privately owned and only they can make the rules.
The "free speech zone" argument would be great if the Goverment tried to delete your post, Skinner is a private person and you're in his forums. I've had my share of warnings and deletions, never took it personal though.

16. I wasn't really connecting the two... |
|
I know Skinner has the right to delete posts. Wasn't claiming he was infringing on my first ammendment rights. My first line only had to do with what has been going on in our country the last 3 years. Shoulda made that clearer I guess.
I don't take my deletions personally. I'm not deeply wounded or anything. Only confused.

24. private forum of public intent |
|
This forum, no matter who "owns" it, has a public domain purpose... an open discussion forum for the opposition of the neocon invasion of the public common. In this regard, it is "our" forum and using petty rules to divide "us" is foolish indeed.
In professional publishing, i work with editors who are ruthless with cutting and rewriting... and indeed it does achieve a better quality result. In this regard, i see censorship more like propaganda tailoring... and when this knife is turned on people like myself who are totally in support of the folks here and the intent to reawaken democracy from its neocon sleep. Thus using censorship is a dangerous weapon as it is dividing the good guys... and only when a person's posts truly marginalize the objective should the knife be wielded.
There should be a much more general, small set of rules, and these should be applied liberally to avoid censorship at all costs. Rather a moderator should make a private note on a post and ask it be reworked... or correct language mishaps if it is about "words" used.
Granted, the censors have gotten sweetheart writing on a bunch of other sites by their bad judgement... and that perhaps is good... drive away the die hard DU'ers so they spread the word outside the church.
The administrators, despite their appearant "lofty" status amongst the folk here, are just people... and it is all of us together that make DU powerful. That they own some property is putting the cart in front of the horse. A good computer administrator remiains anonymous by keeping the platform up and empowering their user community. When the administrator's property rights are used to breach the objective of unifying opposition to the busheviks, those rights are over inflated.
All censorship actions should be revisited by a non-moderator committee of DU writers... and if they need to be overturned with apologies issued, then that should be done. Unwise censorship is the bane of a liberal political bastion.

I can't BELIEVE I was the first to do that...:D
I've only ever had 1 post deleted, and that was for using a really cute little smiley giving the finger and holding a sign that read: ASS! (Which, oddly enough, will now not show up if I try to post the link. ;))
Anyway, my question is:
Do you like squash? And if so, what's your favorite method of preparation? :hi:

I think your anger was more righteous than mine, if it's the thread I'm thinking of VelmaD. I feel bad slinging arrows about sports because it's so insignificant in the face of what we're facing as Democrats (and women) lately...

I wasn't really slinging any arrows. There was no righteous anger involved.
And sometimes you just have to take a break from the awful reality of life and fight about sports. (I was gonna say "fight about something trivial" but I figured it might start a flamewar to imply that sports is trivial.) :-)

25. a lot of thought and creativity |
|
Your phrase catches my feelings in that regard. Writing small essays is not always easy and it starts up a creative zone for me, that my best writing is often after warming up my creativity.... and deleting the creation summarily, or having it deleted, shuts my whole creative mode down.
I don't ever get angry and insulting on this forum with individuals... no, my deletions have all been about expressing ideas "unthinkable" like that Osama Bin laden is a jedi knight... or that censorship by location is more insideous than censorship by deletion... but then again, that comment belongs in the unread administrator's forum... ;-)
