I would have been sitting in an apartment watching Conan and thinking the same thoughts I'm thinking now probably only I was a mere little 21 year old.

Since I've been in a serious Pink Floyd mood lately, I'll add my favorite lines from "Time":

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find that ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
And racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

6. Saturday nights in the college dorm
Was spent ordering a pineapple and Canadian bacon (so no one would ask for a slice - pineapple on a pizza was considered gross by most people I knew) and plopping down with homework in front of the tv to watch MST3K from 8-10pm, Saturday Night Live from 10:30 to midnight then Monty Python's Flying Circus and Black Adder until 1 am.

What can I say... I was getting 3 majors, didn't drink, and I had no social life.

Edited on Wed Nov-12-03 01:58 AM by politicat
So it depended on if I had a significant other and or a room mate.

If Yes and no, then studied until SO was ready for bed, went to bed, and got up early in the mornings to study more before workstudy.

If no and no, Studied late, got up a little later.

If no and yes, studied late in library, got up early and studied in dorm lounge. (Never got a single roomie I liked, dammit.)

If yes and yes, studied with SO at SO's house and only pretended I lived in the dorms.

On Edit: Okay, so I'm a total geek. But even geek chicks can get laid.

16. Uh, let's see...
1993 would have made me in grade XII (of XIII, don't ask, it's just the way the Ontario school system used to be), so evenings 10 years ago would have been something like this:

--homework
--tv (I particularly liked Black Adder, Ren and Stimpy, and Prisoners of Gravity, also Law and Order at 11PM)
--late-night phone calls from my then-bf in Toronto !! (and lots of phone sex after the 'rents were in bed!)
--writing on my Commodore Amiga 500 (my baby!), and maybe Compuserve if my dad was feeling generous
--lots of reading
--music (IIRC, lots of GNR, Mitsou, maybe Nirvana, but I can't remember for sure)

Basically, I've subbed the internet for tv, that particular boyfriend for a fiance (different guy), a Pentium II for that old Amiga (and guess which I liked better!), and The Dead Kennedys and Einsturzende Neubauten for Mitsou and Nirvana (although I still occasionally get a hankerin' on for some good old fashioned Geffengarbage). Oh, yeah, and subbed working out for doing homework. Only the reading part hasn't shifted mode.

Plus ca change, plus ca meme chose, non?

18. Played a lot of Dungeons & Dragons
Many times until the sun came up.

On work nights (I delivered pizza) after the shift was over, we'd hang out at Denny's until sunrise. Then it was back to the apartment, draw the blackout curtains closed and sleep until 3.

In retrospect, I'd say the Internet has enriched my life very much. Now I go to bed much earlier, and rarely stay up until 3. Or maybe that's just because of old age and a real job.

32. D&D used to be so fun!
Some nights we wouldn't even bother to go on an adventure, we'd spend the whole night in town trying to fuck over shopkeepers, and getting revenge on them when it didn't work.

I once took a crap in some guy's store because he wouldn't sell me a ring of protection +2 for under 10,000 gold. Rip off! Totally justified dump-taking. But anyway, although I successfully hid in one of his aisles, I blew my move silently... what a way to die.

19. Same thing
It wasn't Internet, it was Usenet, like a great big BBS.

There was the BBS scene, too, but in 1993, things were going over to the 'Net.

I'm now married to that beautiful girlfriend, which is terrific. I'd like to get back to reading -- I love the anticipation of a book.

And since I'm posting this at nearly 3:20 a.m., I *definitely* need to get to bed earlier.
